A leisurely journey to London from Northampton. On arrival at Euston, my wife and I walked to St. Pancras to then travel to Stratford International via SouthEastern Javelin.

350259, LN 10.25 Northampton-London Euston (1Y16, RT), Northampton station
Our train to London Euston waits at Northampton station. It will depart in some ten minutes time giving my wife, seen walking towards the train, and I plenty of time to enjoy our coffee before we get underway as the 10.25 service to London Euston. The high-density Desiro Class 350/2 subsets really are getting a bit internally tatty now and feeling ready for a refurbishment. I suspect that some money will be spent on them once they come off-lease in the coming months prior to heading off to pastures new, wherever that may be!

720112, 08.45 Wembley Yard-Rugby (5Q27, 36L), Northampton station
The Class 720s are a real step change for rail passengers throughout East Anglia on both the c2c and Greater Anglia lines replacing a myriad of older classes. The 720/1 subset is being introduced into service at the time of writing in the autumn of 2022 with units undergoing testing and mileage accumulation runs prior to moving east for driver training. Undergoing a test run 720112 is seen passing through Northampton station as the 5Q27 08.45 Wembley Yard to Rugby outward trip. It would make a return trip later in the day. This is a 'going away' shot as I was engrossed in conversation with my wife and enjoying a coffee on the train rather than studying RTT to see what was about!

59206, 66590 & Class 66, Wembley Yard
Class 59s are more normally associated with the West Country and the haulage of heavy stone trains. However, these trains do make forrays wider afield as seen here in Wembley Yard with 59206 stabled between workings. Mike's TOPS report did not identify its inbound working but later in the day, it would lead the 7C77 12.19 empty stone working back to Merehead Quarry. According to TOPS 66590 was on a London Gateway Freightliner service and as for the Class 66 with some interesting reflections in its windscreen, who knows?

395013, SE 09.55 Margate-London St. Pancras (1J25, 23L), London St. Pancras station
I have taken photographs in and around St. Pancras station over many years but have yet to get in on the SouthEastern platforms. Having tapped in to gain access to the platforms I managed a standard three-quarter view of Javelin 395013 'Hornby Visitor Centre'. The unit had worked in as the 09.55 from Margate and would soon be returning out via east London. These handsome units were introduced back in 2009 and marked a step change for the customers of the southeast bringing whole new levels of speed and service. However, their full capabilities have not quite been exploited with their speed a little stymied on the old lines of Kent! In addition, I have yet to travel on one of these trains but that was about to change.......

374027, ES 14.31 London St. Pancras-Paris Gare du Nord (9O32), London St. Pancras station
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I can't help feeling that the Class 374 e320s are a rather ugly and bulbous design; others will undoubtedly disagree with me! I think that the design of the original Class 373s (now largely scrapped or in storage) is a far more meaty and purposeful look? With that this in mind, 374027 waits at St. Pancras prior to passengers boarding that will later work the 14.31 service to Paris Gare du Nord whisking passengers along at up to two hundred miles per hour.

365018, SE 11.12 Ramsgate-London St. Pancras (1J31, 1L) , London St. Pancras station
365018 'Mo Farah/The Victory Javelin (2017-2019)' arrives at St. Pancras International working the 11.12 from Ramsgate waved at by a child with his father in a scene that transcends the railway age! My wife and would join this train and travel the short distance back to Stratford as the 13.12 service to Margate.

Tickets, Northampton-London Euston
The outward tickets for our off-peak return journey from Northampton to Euston. We used contactless to make the relatively short trip from St. Pancras to Stratford International. At the time of writing I have not been able to see how much TfL have charged us for this journey!
