To celebrate my fiftieth birthday and my retirement from my full-time employment in education my wife son and I spent a very enjoyable week in York. We did all the usual things and also met up with family and, of course, we travelled by train!

The journey to York from Wellingborough was a pretty uneventful affair. After arrival, I popped back to the station for an hour or so made particularly easy as our hotel was only five minutes walk away! |

I took in a morning hour or so at York station whilst the wife prepared her face and later in the day I went to the National Railway Museum. |

A day trip from York to Harrogate with my wife and son found us travelling on the train. In common with the rest of the week, the weather was miserable with it raining for most of the day! |

A short trip by train to Malton in order to meet up with family and to go to nearby Castle Howard. |
||
After a short visit to the NRM with my son, we all headed home after our week in York. Despite the awful weather, we had a super time celebrating my fiftieth birthday with some members of my wider family. |
