A late summer short break to Brighton with my wife coincided with some extraordinary weather. With temperatures more akin to June than September we had a smashing few days. I managed a little railway activity and, of course, we travelled there and back by train.

The journey to Brighton began at Milton Keynes rather than Northampton due to the stretch of line from Roade cutting to Northampton station being closed for the connections to the SERGO logistics park being installed. It was also a first for me as we chose to take Thameslink from St. Pancras meaning my first trip across London on this route. |

My wife and I took a trip along Brighton's seafront aboard Volk's Electric Railway (or VER), the oldest operational electric railway in the world. Later in the afternoon, whilst my wife rested, I took a return trip to Littlehampton to get my 'quick fix' of semaphore signalling! |

Following yesterday's late afternoon trip to Littlehampton I decided on a slightly shorter run to Lancing on this afternoon. I had spotted a signal box from the train the previous day and was eager to get a photograph of it. It was another extremely hot afternoon with a September temperature in excess of thirty degrees celsius. |

With yet another day forecast to produce temperatures in excess of thirty degrees Celsius, it was time for my wife and I to head for home after our all too brief stay in Brighton. In a reversed repeat of our outward journey, we took a Thameslink service to St. Pancras International, a walk from there to Euston and a London Northwestern journey back to Milton Keynes. |
