With yet another day forecast to produce temperatures in excess of thirty degrees Celsius, it was time for my wife and I to head for home after our all too brief stay in Brighton. In a reversed repeat of our outward journey, we took a Thameslink service to St. Pancras International, a walk from there to Euston and a London Northwestern journey back to Milton Keynes.

387219, GX 09.59 London Victoria-Brighton (1W38, 10L) & 377320, SN 11,06 Brighton-Seaford (2C24, 1E), Brighton station
At the far northern end of Brighton station two Electrostars pass. To the left Gatwick Express' 387219 arrives with the 09.59 from London Victoria whilst to the right 377320 will soon leave working the 11.06 local service to Seaford via Lewes and Newhaven Town.

377126 & 377147, stabled, Lover's Walk depot
Two Electrostars rest in sidings at the extreme southern end of Brighton's Lover's Walk depot. 377126 and 377147 represent just two of Souther's fleet that numbers over two hundred operating throughout their network bar just three routes; the takeover is pretty much complete!

700134, TL 11.14 Brighton-Cambridge (9S24, 7L), Brighton station
The incoming Thameslink service arrived at Brighton late with the driver of the returning service ready and waiting on the platform end to head back straightaway. He is seen unlocking the driver's door ready to get the 11.15 service to Cambridge away promptly. My wife and I travelled aboard 700134 from here as far as London St. Pancras International. On this hot day that was now the fourth with a September temperature in excess of thirty degrees Celsius, my wife and I both commented that it was actually a bit chilly inside the train such was the efficiency of its air conditioning.

66544, 321328 & 66564, stabled, Wembley Yard
By the time we passed Wembley Yard the bright and clear blue skies of earlier in the day further south had become somewhat overcast but that did not belie that it was still extremely hot with very high levels of humidity. Seen from a Class 350 passing Wembley Yard at speed sees 66544 and 66564. stabled awaiting their next turn of duty. Between them stored and stabled former Greater Anglia's 321328 is seen.

66601, stabled, Wembley Yard
66601 is seen in Wembley Yard at the head of a rake of JNA VTG-owned stone wagons. Unfortunately, I could identify this working from RTT and my friend Mie could not find a TOPS report for this day so it will remain a mystery unless anybody else can help. Notice the neatly lined up trio of Pendolinos stabled to the extreme left of the photograph.

350265, LN 13.23 London Euston-Milton Keynes Central (1K39, 1E), Milton Keynes Central station
Having arrived at Milton Keynes I walked to the front of the train to capture 350265 which had already had its tail lights illuminated for the return journey to Euston. With the line still closed from Hanslope to Northampton a shuttle service remained in operation with the dreaded bustitution from here to Northampton. After being a little cold on our previous train from Brighton to St. Pancras due to over-efficient air conditioning on the 13.23 ex Euston Desrio operated service was far too hot and stuffy!

Tickets, Brighton-Milton Keynes Central
Our return tickets from Brighton to Milton Keynes are seen. I have a confession here.....we realised with horror after we had arrived home that our two together card had just expired whilst were away on our short break. Note to self, set up a reminder on my 'phone when we renew it!
