The journey to Brighton began at Milton Keynes rather than Northampton due to the stretch of line from Roade cutting to Northampton station being closed for the connections to the SERGO logistics park being installed. It was also a first for me as we chose to take Thameslink from St. Pancras meaning my first trip across London on this route.

350121, LN 10.26 London Euston-Milton Keynes Central (1K27, RT), Milton Keynes Central station
Due to the closure of the slow lines from Hanslope to Northampton station due to the installation of pointwork and signalling for access to the SERGO logistics park a shuttle service was in operation between Milton Keynes and London. For passengers to Wolverton and Northampton (and beyond), a bustitution arrangement was in place. One of the regular train shuttles arrives at Milton Keyes worked by 350121, the 1K27 10.26 ex Euston.

390039, VT 05.48 Glasgow Central-London Euston (9M48, 11L), Milton Keynes Central station
390039 'Lady Godiva' was always recognisable by its blue vinyl complete with a silhouette of the city's most famous female resident attached to the nose. Unfortunately, this has now been removed but the Pendolino still carries the name. My wife and I travelled on this train, the 05.48 Glasgow Central to Euston from here at Milton Keynes to the capital.

66610, stabled, Wembley Yard
Unfortunately, Mike could not access a TOPS report for this day so I could not identify what 66610 was doing in Wembley Yard. It is crewed up and ready for service so unless anybody can advise its next movement will remain a mystery! Notice the exceptional September sunshine glinting on the side of the locomotive.

60046, unidentified working, Wembley Yard
Another freight that will remain unidentified due to the lack of TOPS reports for this particular day. 60046 'William Wilberforce' sits at the head of a rake of VTG-operated JNA stone wagon. From here empty JNAs return to the West Country quarries often with a locomotive sandwiched between two rakes of wagons however, class 60s do not operate on that route... any advice anybody?

321331, 321330 & Class 321, stored, Wembley Yard
Comprehensively refurbished a few years ago, superbly reliable and languishing in Wembley Yard waiting to go to the scrap man. A number of former Greater Anglia Class 321s including 321331 & 321330 still look smart and ready for service but their next journey will probably be to Sims in Newport. It's all very well modernising the railway but is it the best use of resources when existing stock that is perfectly serviceable is replaced just for the sake of it?

700155, TL 11.53 Cambridge-Brighton (9S29, 4L), London St. Pancras International station
After a short walk in the hot September sunshine from Euston to St. Pancras we descended into the Thameslink station to catch our next train direct to Brighton. Wearing its ‘trainbow’ livery applied by GTR in 2019 700155 arrives at platform A (what's wrong with it being platform one I ask myself?) working the 11.53 Bedford to Brighton service. Whilst the trains are perfectly competent the seats remain unforgivingly hard, a point made by my wife after being on the train for half an hour or so!

Tickets, Milton Keynes Central-Brighton
The return fare from Milton Keynes to Brighton was a reasonable £45. However, this was an advanced off-peak fare that split ticketing could shave nothing from. With plenty of trains available to travel on the journey was easy and stress-free despite a short walk along Euston Road between Euston and St. Pancras.
