With our son away at university my wife and I took the opportunity of a short break to the beautiful city of Kraków in Poland. We also visited Auschwitz-Birkenau and this reinforced my view that everybody needs to go there and be quite clear as to what went on at this dreadful time in history. Whilst we did not actually enjoy any rail travel on PKP (The Polish Railway network) I did visit Kraków Glówny (Main) station three times. No barriers, no questions, freedom to roam and other spotters were seen - all very reassuring.

Whilst my wife was getting ready for our first day exploring Kraków I walked the short distance from our apartment to Main station. Later in the day, I left her for an hour at the conjoined Galeria Krakowska whilst she explored the shops. |

We had a very early start for our visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Our minibus picked us up from our apartment taking us the hour or so to the town. I will let the images tell the story. On our return later in the afternoon, I spent an hour or so at a grey and gloomy Main station. |

A much brighter day and after our walk around Kraków's Jewish quarter, I headed for the station again. |
