The second trip to Box with my friend Andy. I left him at Chippenham station whilst I went the short distance on to Box for some more specialist treatment on my neck.

43196, GW 10.30 Bristol Temple Meads-London Paddington (1A13, 1E), Chippenham station
The 1A13 10.30 Bristol to London Paddington comes to a halt at Chippenham station, the second stop of its journey east. 43136 was a late delivery to the Eastern Region sometime in 1982 as one of the power cars of set 254057.

153305, GW 10.47 Swindon-Westbury (2M07, 1E), Chippenham station
Chippenham station retains quite a number of its original GWR features as built. Despite loosing its down fast line in 1976 it is still busy and, if anything could do with this line reinstating at peak times. 153305 pauses at platform two working the 2M07 10.47 Swindon to Westbury working.

66414, 09.03 Bristol FLT-Felixstowe N FLT (4L31), Chippenham station
Looking very smart in the weak winter light 66414 leads the 09.03 Bristol FLT to Felixstowe FLT. This is a regular cross-country coast to coast Freightliner flow that saves a significant number of trucks travelling along the M4, round the M25 and up the A12; long may this and all other Freightliner workings continue to do this!

43183, GW 10.00 London Paddington-Paignton (1C09, 3E), Chippenham station
43183 brings the 10.00 Paddington to Paignton via Bristol TM service into Chippenham station. This 1C09 is an unusual working as it travels via the GWML rather than the more usual Berks and Hants route. 43183 was a late power car introduced for the HST125 NE/SW cross-country services in 1982 being part of set 243051. The picture is taken from the truncated end of the redundant but largely intact old platform 1 that had its track removed in early 1976.

43010, GW 10.30 London Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads (1C10, 4E), Chippenham station
With the weak winter light beginning to burn through the veil of high cloud 43010 brings the 10.30 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads to halt at Chippenham station. 43010 is an early power car being built in 1975/6 and introduced as part of frontline Western Region set 253005. Unfortunately, this set's other power car, 43011, is no more as it was destroyed in the Ladbroke Road crash in October 1999.

43092, GW 10.30 London Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads (1C10, 4E), Chippenham station
With unusual light and a dramatic sky 43092 brings up the rear of the 10.30 Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads working. I am standing on Chippenham's new and very grand footbridge that like so many new structures that Network Rail builds looks to over-engineered? I have just left Andy at Chippenham whilst I make the short journey on to Box to receive a neck treatment.

Kemble station
The afternoon of our day out turned out to be a loverly winter one with clear and crisp light. On our journey home we called in at Kemble station. The station, built in 1845, has had a varied history. In the 1960s and 1970s things looked grim when it lost its branches to Cirencester and Tetbury following by BR singling the line from here to Swindon. However, its on the up now as the line has been re-doubled and passenger numbers are healthy for such a rural location. Judging by the huge and overflowing car park most travellers appeared to be commuters.

Water tower, Kemble station
Historic England designated the ex. GWR water tower at Kemble station as being grade II listed in 1986. It is thought to have been constructed in 1882. It is dominant feature that sits at the west end of the station and has been looked after over the years. However, a structure of this type need careful and considerate care; let's hope that resources allow this to continue over the coming years.

Frontage, Kemble station
Kemble station constructed from lovely, warm Cotswold stone has changed little over the years and still manages to retain many of its original features. One feature that is not original are the many cars now left by its commuters and my lovely Combo van seen here stage left!
42122, GW 14.25 Great Malvern-London Paddington (1P57, 3E), Kingham station
The scene at Kingham has changed hugely over the years. From being a relatively open station is now somewhat enclosed, largely by these trees that have grown to an enormous height to the right of this view. 43122 brings the 1P57 14.25 Great Malvern to Paddington into the station. 43122 was delivered to the Eastern Region after a year or so after their initial allocation. It was designated as 'spare' power car along with 43123.

43004, GW 14.25 Great Malvern-London Paddington (1P57, 3E), Kingham station
The fortunes of Kingham station, opened in 1885, have waxed and waned over the years. It was once a very busy crossing point for a number of lines and boasted two signal boxes. As the inevitable closures took hold, rationalisation took place and, at one time, complete closure was a possibility. However, the line was spared and investment took place and Kingham's fortunes rose again. Passenger numbers are in the ascendancy, testament to this was the huge enlargement of the car parking facilities in 2015 to accommodate the commuter cars whose drivers want to use the station. Facilities remain a little basic but that can alway be improved on! Here, Andy watches 43004 at the back of the 14.25 Great malvern to London Paddington leave the station.
