After a superb afternoon tea at The Ritz to celebrate my mum's birthday, we headed home from Marylebone but things did not go quite to plan.

165007, CH 19.12 London Marylebone-Aylesbury & 168218, unidentified working, London Marylebone station
Little visited by me and enthusiasts alike Marylebone station is a super place even if the trains on show are not that interesting! Operated by Chiltern 165007 is seen to the left waiting to work the 19.12 service to Aylesbury meanwhile 168218 waits between services. Being now fairly busy it is sobering to think that the station was within a whisker of being closed by BR in 1986.

168111, CH 19.15 London Marylebone-Birmingham Moor Street & 165038, CH 19.18 London Marylebone-Banbury, London Marylebone station
A busy Sunday evening scene at Marylebone station. To the left the 19.15 'fast' service to Birmingham Moor Street worked by 168111 boards and will leave in the next. few minutes. Meanwhile, to the right 165038 prepares to work the slightly later 19.18 'slow' to Banbury. My wife, son and I travelled on this train all the way to Banbury despite only needing to get to Kings Sutton. On arrival at Banbury we would wait a few minutes to get the last up stopper of the day back south to King's Sutton. If our train was late and we were to miss this train I am not too sure what Chiltern would do about it?

168002, CH 17.07 Birmingham Snow Hill-London Marylebone, London Marylebone station
A little in the evening shade at Marylebone 168002 arrives with the 17.07 service from Birmingham Snow Hill. This train has taken exactly two hours to the minute to make this journey. This is not the quickest train from Birmingham to London by any route but it does serve some rather isolated towns on its way. If the recently announced HS2 ever gets built I wonder how quickly this will make the same journey?
