After completing my work for the day I took a short walk from my accommodation to the North Norfolk Railway's Sheringham station. It felt very odd being here during work time with it being a place that my family and I have been visiting for many years on holiday!

1231, shunting stock, Sheringham station
After I had completed my work for the afternoon I took a short walk from my accommodation to the North Norfolk Railway's station at Sheringham. All was fairly quiet but for resident shunter 1231 bumbling about moving some stock.

12131, shunting stock, Sheringham station
12131 is a very early example of a recognisable design to us known as Class 08. Apart from a spell late in its pre-preservation life at the Snowdon Colliery in Kent, it was and remains today an eastern region locomotive. It joined the NNR in 1982 and has remained since being directly owned by the M&GN Society. It is seen at Sheringham shunting some stock around towards the end of the working day.

Sheringham East signal box (M&GN, 1906)jpg
The smart-looking Sheringham East signal box is seen standing approximately where it was first constructed by the M&GN in 1906. Following the truncation of the line from Cromer and the construction of the new station at Sheringham by BR in 1972 on the other side of Station Road, the box was set to be demolished. However, it was saved by the fledgling NNR society who dismantled the box removing the top and frame and placing a few hundred yards to the west on the old station platform. Later it became a small signalling museum with the original West box controlling all operations. However, in 2011 a successful planning application saw a new brick base constructed at its original position and the box moved again opening in 2012. However, the cones, missing fencing and red tape visible in this photograph indicate that things have not gone quite to plan, see......https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-22252923

156416, LE 16.45 Norwich-Sheringham, Sheringham station
A busy scene at Sheringham's national network station sees passengers waiting to board 156416 'Saint Edmund' that will work the 16.45 service to Norwich. Looking at the number of passengers, who also stretched along the platform level with the train and behind me to the left begs the question as to whether a two-car unit is sufficient provision.

D5631, 17.30 Holt-Sheringham, Sheringham station
The final service train of the day on the North Norfolk Railway arrives at Sheringham having left Holt at 17.30. It is led by resident former Class 31 D5631 that looks superb. It is indicative of how dull this July evening was witnessed by the glow of the twin marker lights that are, of course not authentic on a locomotive wearing this livery.

D5631, running round Sheringham station
Looking more authentic from this end with a full-sized four-character headcode panel D5631 (formally 31207) runs round its stock having hauled the last service train of the day, the 17.30 from Holt. The Type 3 will now run back to Weybourne for servicing and stabling leaving the stock in the Sheringham's station platform overnight. Sheringham's recently reconstructed East signal box can be seen that controls all activity at this end of the station.
