The smart-looking Sheringham East signal box is seen standing approximately where it was first constructed by the M&GN in 1906. Following the truncation of the line from Cromer and the construction of the new station at Sheringham by BR in 1972 on the other side of Station Road, the box was set to be demolished. However, it was saved by the fledgling NNR society who dismantled the box removing the top and frame and placing a few hundred yards to the west on the old station platform. Later it became a small signalling museum with the original West box controlling all operations. However, in 2011 a successful planning application saw a new brick base constructed at its original position and the box moved again opening in 2012.
