An Easter break to Edinburgh with my wife and son in part to celebrate another of her 'special' birthdays; I'm not saying which one but she was born half a century ago if that helps! After leaving the car parked at Peterborough we traveled the ECML all the way. A super trip but for the really cold weather, unseasonally so but Easter is particularly early this year.

1. Journey there-02.04.13
I like travelling on the ECML and this trip from Peterborough to Edinburgh was no exception. Now nationalised, (or Directly Operated in Government parlance) the line is operated under the banner of East Coast which has run the route since 2009. An uneventful and comfortable journey found us arriving into Waverley on time and ready for our short break.

2. Edinburgh Waverley-03.04.13
My wife's birthday found me out making a trip to Waverley station as she had developed a nasty cold and wanted some rest in the hotel. I love Waverley station finding it a bustling and lively place with a much of interest. For the moment it remains 'open' so enthusiasts can wander about in the pursuit of their hobby.

3. Journey home-04.04.13
Our short break in Edinburgh was over far too quickly! We returned south again on the ECML leaving Edinburgh at lunchtime enjoying another smooth and efficient journey in a Mk. IV coach. They really are superb coaches and with plans for their replacements now in the planning phase I hope that these will be as good as what they are replacing; I suspect not!
