A very cold Easter visit to the Northampton and Lamport Railway with my wife and son. As usual, we parked in the delightfully named Merry Tom Lane and walked to the station where we visited the excellent bookshop (AKA the Emporium), had a snack and observed what locomotives were operating to please the Easter weekend visitors.

31289, 11.00 Pitsford & Brampton return, between Bridge 13 & Merry Tom Lane
Leaving a blue exhaust haze in its wake resident 'dirty diesel' 31289 approaches Merry Tome Lane on the Northampton and Lamport Railway with the 11.00 return Easter special. I am not sure why the driver has chosen 1M50 as the headcode on display as it is usually assigned to an international service from the south coast to the Midlands; not a working usually associated with Class 31s. Alternatively, it could have been to celebrate 31289's half-century but this important birthday took place two years ago in 2011!

As resident Peckett 0-4-0 2104 is prepared for service to the right, 31289 heads the Northampton and Lamport Railway's 11.00 return Easter special. It's a shame that the Easter weather was so grey and cold as I am sure that more visitors would have come out and spent their money if it had been better.

2104, 12.30 Pitsford & Brampton return, Pitsford & Brampton station
0-4-0 Peckett 2104 has been on the Northampton and Lamort Railway since 1989 prior to that being operational on Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton Road arriving there from industrial use at Croydon Power station in December 1972. It is seen here making quite a sight for such a diminutive locomotive arriving at Pitsford and Brampton station with the 12.30 return working. 2104's boiler certificate expires in the next couple of years so a decision is going to be made about its future soon.

Carol & Charlie, walking back to Merry Tom Lane, crossing Bridge 13
My wife and son walk across Bridge 13 on the way back to Merry Tom Lane where the car is parked on this grey and cold Easter day. The Northampton and Lamport Railway's 12.30 return service can be seen in the distance heading back towards us with the exhaust from 2104 indicating a strong easterly wind was blowing and a cold one it was at that!

From this angle, the cut-down loading gauge of Peckett 2104 is clear to see when compared to the Mk. I coach that it is pushing. It was built like this, along with two others (2103 and 2105), to work at Croydon power station in South London, something that it did from 1948 until superseded by diesels in the 1960s. The Peckett is approaching Pitsford and Brampton station working the 12.20 return Easter special service.
