Getting up a ridiculously early hour in the half-light found me out across the field from home to hopefully capture the passage of a very unusual event that I have never seen before that of a Southern electric passing heading for attention at Widness. Of course, running under 25Kv wires means the unit was being dragged and I was interested to see how this was going to be achieved.

92018, CS 23.40 Glasgow Central & 23.42 Edinburgh Waverley-London Euston (1M11, 19E), between Roade & Ashton
with the sun having just raised itself above the horizon behind me a train that I have very few photographs of passes the countryside between Roade and Ashton in south Northamptonshire. The 1M11 or 'lowland' sleeper leaves Glasgow and Edinburgh as two separate services within a few minutes of each other coming together to form one long train to Euston at Carstairs Junction. On this particular morning, it is led by CS' 92018 that, like the stock, is doing its best to camouflage itself against the background!

The sun is doing a magnificent job of illuminating the 02.35 London Gateway to Trafford Park 4M83 service as it approaches Roade led by DB's 66182. As I said almost a year ago, this is not a train that I photograph very often due to its timings, I captured it very close to this location last September, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30031982993/x66128-02-35-london-gateway-trafford

47749 & 458523, 04.26 Wembley Yard-Widness Transport Tech (5Q69, 73L), between Roade & Ashton
Unfortunately, the sun went behind some stubborn cloud just before the crucial time thus the lighting of what I had actually gone out to see was somewhat compromised! Travelling at a very slow speed that appeared to be forty miles per hour and under a Q code meaning it must not deviate from its route under any circumstances the 04.26 Wembley Yard to Widness Transport Tech. passes between Roade and Ashton. I suspect it was running under a Q code as a Southern unit could easily go out of gauge on unchecked track. South West Trains' 458523 is going north well away from its DC haunts for attention at Altom's facility that specialises in internal refurbishments and repaints (as per their recent work on the Pendolinos). The amazing train is being hauled by 47749 'City of Truro' with 69008 out of sight on the rear.

The rear of the 04.26 Wembley Yard to Widness Transport Tech. passes between Roade and Ashton in Northamptonshire at a very slow pace and on the down fast but it was not even six in the morning so there was much other traffic about. Out of sight in front of the barrier coaches was South West Trains' 450253 heading north for attention at Alstom's Widness facility. To date, this is probably the most unusual working that I have photographed this year; we'll see what the remaining five months will bring!

66751, 23.18 Peak Forest Cemex-Bletchley Cemex (6B10, 83L), between Roade & Ashton
Another train that I do not very often photograph due in large part to it running through the night is the 23.18 Peak Forest to Bletchley loaded stone train. The 6B10 train is seen crawling south near Roade within the last few miles of its destination with 66751 'Inspiration Delivered Hitachi Rail Europe' at the head. Time to head home across the filed and have some breakfast!
