I took my camera with me on my afternoon walk. Not a lot about with the closure of the slow lines for engineering works with the freight not running where it is usually diverted to the fasts during such occasions.

390123, 14.29 London Euston-Carlisle (1S72, 3L), Roade cutting
390123 passes northwards through Roade cutting working Avanti’s 1S72 14.29 Euston to Carlisle. This service has an interesting stopping pattern running non-stop to Warrington (one hundred and eight two minutes) then calling at every station to its destination apart from Leyland. 390123 was the second set of the refurbishment programme to re-enter service in May 2022. To date, I have yet to travel on one of the ‘new look’ Pendolinos.

DR73947, 14.13 Nuneaton Civil Engineers-Milton Keynes Central (6J62, 3L), Roade cutting
Normally the movement of a track machine would not attract my attention but as the slow lines were shut DR73947 was forced to make its journey on the up fast via the Weedon route. With a timed maximum speed of sixty miles per hour, this would be a challenge for signallers as there would inevitably be problems behind the train with the following services checked. Indeed, the 14.13 Nuneaton to Milton Keynes did cause some problems with a parade of Pendolinos caught up in its wake running on caution for some distance. The Colas-operated Plasser & Theurer 08-4x4/4S-RT Switch & Crossing Tamper is seen passing through Roade cutting.
