Just prior to heading for our holiday in Norfolk I popped out to see the Cumbrian Mountain Express pass near home. Unfortunately, it was running late that did not go down well regarding the holiday packing arrangements!

86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.15 London Euston-Carlisle (1C96, 20L), site of Roade station
Running some forty minutes late, time it did not fully recover, 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' passes Roade leading the outward Cumbrian Mountain Express charter. This photograph is rather strongly backlit, a situation that would have been a lot better if the train had been running to time! The 07.15 Euston to Carlisle was hauled by the ac electric as far as Carnforth where 35018 'British India Line' was to take over for the journey north over Shap with 47804 assisting at the rear.
