Just before dinner, I nipped out to see the passing of the Friday evening LSL 'charter'. For a change this week it had 90001 'Royal Scot' leading the train and the sun played ball that made up for the last time I tried this spot for this train!

90001, 17.42 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1Z41, 2E), Roade hill
At last in some evening sunshine at this location between Roade and Ashton 90001 'Royal Scot' passes heading north on the down fast line leading LSL's 17.42 Euston to Manchester 'charter'. I put the word charter in inverted commas as it is for all intents and purposes a service train with anybody welcome to turn up, board it and pay the £75 first-class flat fare for a journey in some very comfortable and roomy Mk. III coaches. As LSL has now extended the services until the beginning of December and with the possibility of a Monday service being introduced it is obviously going down well with the travelling public and the enthusiast alike!

With 90001 'Royal Scot' leading at the front of the train DVT 82139 is seen hanging on at the rear passing between Roade and Ashton in south Northamptonshire. The superb retro. set of Intercity stock and DVT (also with 90001 at the front) is working the 17.42 Euton to Manchester 1Z41 relief service makes a fine sight passing through the rural landscape!

66703, 14.18 Trafford Park-Felixstowe (4L18, 2L), Roade hill
What a difference a few minutes makes at this location between the Northamptonshire villages of Roade and Ashton! Having captured the LSL 1Z41 charter in full sunshine a sort time earlier an errant cloud has spoilt the show as 4L18 (14.18 Trafford Park to Felixstowe) passes led by 66703 'Doncaster PSB 1981-2002'. Being early autumn the light is beginning to fade earlier in the evening and with the sun low in the sky a rather disappointing image has resulted improved in part by the appearance of a rather low-flying hot air balloon that looks, from this angle at least, perilously close to the sails of the M1 windfarm.

I have included this screenshot taken from my 'phone for its comedic value. The 4L56 13.15 Trafford Park to London Gateway has failed near Long Buckby on the Northampton loop line causing obvious problems for everything behind it including a trapped London Northwestern 2Y74. This is becoming a bit of an issue in recent weeks with a number of freight failures in this area. However, what made me laugh was the signaller inserting the words NOGO at signal 1054! That pretty well sums up the situation on the up slow line between Hillmorton Junction and Northampton on this busy Friday evening.
