Due to industrial action involving various TOCs coinciding with my wife going to London with her friend they had to travel from Wellingborough with EMR rather than the more usual journey from Northampton with London Northwestern. After dropping my wife off at the station I hung about for an hour or so in the hot sunshine.

222011, EM 10.02 London St. Pancras-Sheffield (1F25, 16L), Wellingborough station
222011 sweeps northwards through Wellingborough with the 1F25 10.02 from St. Pancras to Sheffield. Wellingborough used to be an easy station to take photographs at with uncluttered views north and south. Since its modernisation and electrification views have become so much more cluttered as is the case here with modern infrastructure really spoiling things!

Reinstalled canopy, Wellingborough station
When Wellingborough station was being dragged into the twenty-first century a couple of years ago the canopies were removed to aid the installation of the AC electrification paraphernalia but also because they were found to be in a parlous state. At the time I made a comment about what exactly was going on and the way that the work was gone about, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/28700323804/platform-1-wellingborough-station However, I am pleased and quite ready to admit that my concerns were unfounded and that a super job has been completed to reinstate the Midland style canopies and to a very high standard; credit where it's due!

360107 EM 10.40 Corby-London St. Pancras (1Y22, 1L), Wellingborough station
The squadron take-over by the fleet of former Greater Anglia Desiros on the Corby to London St. Pancras route has been a great success with the units settling into their new route well ad proving to be reliable as would be expected with this family fleet of units. However, on this particular morning, something has gone awry as my wife and her friend were delayed by half an hour as their train south was cancelled. They had to board this one, the 10.40 Corby to London service worked by 360107. They are just out of sight at Wellingborough station as the Desiro coasts in.

360101 & 360112, EM 10.15 London St. Pancras-Corby (1V19, 5L), Wellingborough station
360101 and 360112 arrive at Wellingbourgh's platform one with the 10.15 St. Pancras to Corby service. Once the preserve of the 'fast' trains this platform now is a multi-purpose one with stoppers (as is the case here) and non-stopping express'. Interestingly, the newly created platform four has usurped the old platform three that does not see that many stoppers except during peak times (whatever they may be now!)

222103, EM 10.12 Nottingham-London St. Pancras (1B34, 1L), Wellingborough station
222103 takes the curve through Wellingborough station working the 10.12 Nottingham to St. Pancras service. This is exactly the sort of service that has been withdrawn from both Wellingborough meaning there are no 'fast' services to the capital. In the other direction, it is even worse with passengers having to travel to Kettering and change with a poor service pattern from there northwards perhaps necessitating a further change a Leicester. The rail travelling public of Wellingborough really has been dealt a poor card with this change meaning commuters (remember those!) and passengers have no direct services to and from London that will not exactly be encouraging people to return to the railways post the pandemic.

222005, EM 10.30 London St. Pancras-Sheffield (1F27, 17L), Wellingborough station
Hot on the heels of a slow stopper and travelling at a much-reduced speed 222005 passes through Wellingborough station working the 10.30 St. Pancras to Sheffield. Until this point in its journey, the 1F27 was running to time but being pathed behind the stopper proved to be the catalyst that delayed the train for the rest of its journey arriving at its destination seventeen minutes adrift.
