The Swift Express freight service has not seen a great deal of activity in the day on the WCML so a return run from Scotland to Euston was worth getting out to see. I took my daily walk to coincide with its passage taking a break from some hardcore home decoration!

66593, 12.16 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L46, 4E), Hyde Road bridge
66593 makes sedentary progress through Roade cutting taken from Hyde Road bridge leading the 12.16 Lawley Street to London Gateway Freightliner. When at the DRS open day a week previously Mike and I spoke with a driver on a number of issues. One thing that he confirmed was that a heavily loaded train heading south from Northampton towards Roade can be quite a battle for a Class 66, especially when it is held at the station necessitating a standing start prior to making the climb.

88003, 13.51 DIRFT-Tilbury (4L48, 2E), Hyde Road bridge
The weekday 4L48 13.51 Daventry to Tilbury has largely gone over to electric haulage but the weekend services (when they run) are usually in the hands of a DRS Class 66. 88003 'Genesis' leads the service past Roade's Hyde Road bridge making easy work of its train on this particular day.

66099, 12.19 Tilbury-Trafford Park (4M85, 9E), site of Roade station
66099 still looks smart as it passes the site of Roade station in its recently applied DB Cargo UK livery that it received back in the spring. The 66 is leading the 4M85 12.19 Tilbury to Trafford Park which was composed entirely of flats with no boxes in sight. 66099 also wears the Ukrainian flag with the words #WeStandWithUkraine which were unveiled prior to it hauling the first train with humanitarian aid supplies from the UK (over 1,000,000 items weighing 1500 tons in 24 containers on a train that was over 500 metres long) on 14.04.22.

321334, 13.40 London Euston-Mossend (5Z83, 9L), site of Roade station
After creating a lot of interest following much testing last year Evershot Rail's bid to develop the Swift Express Freight concept appears to have struggled a little. I have seen few services either in the flesh or flagged up on the various forums. This return run from Scotland to Euston did get a number of notifications so I made the effort to get out and see it. Having travelled up earlier in the day 321334 heads north on the fast line past Roade working the 5Z83 13.40 Euston to Mossend. I am not sure if this was a test or driver training run or if it was an actual loaded service... advice anybody? My last photograph of this particular Class 221 was taken in Essex back in the spring of 2014, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29996921604/x321334-16-14-wickford-southminster
