On a lovely bright early spring morning I popped out to see the passing of 'The Cumbrian Coast Express' and later in the morning the unusual occurrence of a TransPennine Express NOVA3 set making its way to Wolverton Works for, as yet, undisclosed attention.

390155, VT 06.10 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A05, 3L), between Roade & Ashton 390155 'Pride and Prosperity' makes a fine sight in the early morning sunshine as it passes between the villages of Roade and Ashton on South Northamptonshire. Named back in December 2019 to mark the launch of Avanti's operations on the WCML taking over the mantle from the venerable Virgin it was working the 06.10 Manchester to Euston service. 66556, 03.25 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 10L), Victoria bridge I gambled on the early morning sun just being high enough to illuminate the 03.25 Garston to London Gateway 4L52 Freightliner at Victoria bridge just south of Roade and I was just about correct to do so with most of the front end, the side and the roof in the light! 66556 leads the train that was a lot more heavily loaded than I have seen of late; perhaps trade is picking up again? 86259, outward leg of The Cumbrian Coast Express, 07.08 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86, RT), Victoria bridge The first Cumbrian Coast Express charter of the year passes Victoria bridge between Ashton and Roade hauled as usual by 86259' Les Ross/Peter Pan'. The AC electric that looks absolutely superb in the early morning sunlight would haul the 1Z86 charter all the way to Carlisle (arriving bang on time by the way) for 45690 'Leander' to then lead the train along the superb and much underrated Cumbrian Coast route to Carnforth. 88003, 05.33 Tilbury-Coatbridge (4S10, 7E), between Roade & Ashton A side-on view of 88003 'Genesis' as it passes between Roade and Ashton in Northamptonshire leading the 05.33 Tilbury to Coatbridge DRS operated intermodal. This 4S10 flow is a relatively new one and brings the opportunity to capture a Class 88 passing through Northamptonshire that is not a particularly common event. With the loss of the Class 86s last year Class 88s bring a little more variety to this part of the world making a change from chugging 66s and has been 90s! 12812, 08.58 Walton Old Junction sidings-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5Q70, 2E), Roade cutting Nova 3 set TP 12 (of thirteen) is seen off its beaten track passing through Roade cutting making a change from the more usual fare on this busy route. Led by DVT 12812 the five-car set is heading to Wolverton Works for attention running as 5Q70 having left Walton Old Junction sidings near Warrington at 08.58. 68021, 08.58 Walton Old Junction sidings-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5Q70, 2E), Roade cutting Providing all the grunt from the rear 68021 'Tireless' powers the 5Q70 08.58 Walton Old Junction to Wolverton Works through Roade cutting. The five-car TPE Nova 3 set (TP 12) was going to 'the works' for attention of some kind that I cannot at the moment find out the nature of? Even my railway associate Mike, who has his ear close to the track (ground), could not expand on the purpose of its visit or if the rest of the twelve sets would be making the same journey?
