Following on from yesterday's AC hauled extravaganza today the WCML was treated to two more locomotive-hauled trains heading to London! They were only going as far as Wembley Central conveying Liverpool fans to the EFL's Carabao Cup being played against Chelsea at the adjacent ground. The weather was sparkling which really got the enthusiasts out to the lineside in their numbers with them occupying all the nearby local spots that I could think of! Indeed, some travelled some distance for this spectacle including the renowned railway photographer Martin Loader aka Hondawanderer.

Class 390, VT 10.20 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A11, 4L), Blisworth
Framed by a wizened and windblown tree an unidentified Pendolino heads south past Blisworth working the 1A11 10.20 Manchester to Euston service. The intense blue sky and lush grass contrast with the otherwise pretty colourless end of winter landscape.

90002 & 47810, 09.50 Liverpool Lime Street-Wembley Central footex (1Z82, RT), Blisworth
Making a fine sight as it passes through the Northamptonshire countryside near the village of Blisworth 90002 'Wolf of Badenoch' leads a set of Pullman style MkII stock with 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' hanging on at the rear. The train was supposed to have been hauled by another of LSL's fleet, 47501 'Craftsman' but it was failed with 90002 substituted. Personally, I think that the AC electric is more interesting than the Class 47 especially when painted in this striking livery. The train was the first of two conveying Liverpool fans from Merseyside to Wembley for the Carabao Cup also known as the League Cup. They would return later in the day after enjoying a thrilling match with Chelsea that saw Liverpool eventually 11-10 on penalties.

D1924 (47810), 09.50 Liverpool Lime Street-Wembley Central footex (1Z82, RT), Blisworth
D1924 'Crewe Diesel Depot' is seen being dragged DIT at the rear of the 09.50 Liverpool Lime Street to Wembley 1Z82 footex charter as it passes Blisworth in Northamptonshire. I have deliberately framed this photograph slightly off-centre to include what appears to be a giant concrete sarcophagus under construction in the background but what is, in fact, a short tunnel that will permit rail access into the huge Sergo Logistics Park (also known as Northampton Gateway) that is under construction close to Junction 15 of the M1.

90039, 11.01 Liverpool South Parkway-Wembley Central footex (1Z22, 11E), Roade cutting
Former Grand Central prepared 90039 'The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport' sweeps through Roade cutting leading a set of former BR Mk.II stock. The footex was carrying Liverpool fans from Liverpool South Parkway to Wembley for the EFL final, a match that the Merseyside team won beating Chelsea 11-10 after penalties. The huge wording adorning the side of 90039 reads 'I am the backbone of the economy' in a further nod to the actual name of the locomotive.

67006, 11.01 Liverpool South Parkway-Wembley Central footex (1Z22, 11E), Roade cutting
67006 'Royal Sovereign' brings up the rear of the 11.01 Liverpool South Parkway to Wembley Central footex charter as it passes through Roade cutting. Whilst the train was being led by a smart-looking 90039 the Class 67 was powered and running which seemed odd unless it was providing some sort of power to the stock? Incidentally, the supporters aboard the train were to enjoy an 11-10 victory (on penalties) against Chelsea no doubt lapping up the atmosphere on the journey home in the evening drinking the buffet/bar dry!

66050, 11.22 King's Langley-Crewe Basford Hall (7R02, 5L), Roade cutting
I had been monitoring the progress of the 7R02 11.22 King's Langley to Crewe Basford Hall engineering train for some time but it suddenly disappeared from RTT and OTT without a trace! I was about to give up and go home when it suddenly reappeared having obviously gone off route at Bletchley to then get going again towards Milton Keynes. I had a pleasant wait above Roade cutting while it headed north towards me seen here with 66050 'EWS Energy' leading. This locomotive really is a 'blast from the past' being still in EWS livery complete with all branding and even carrying an EWS pair of nameplates back from the days when it would have been hauling all manner of coal trains around the country - remember those times?

66148, 11.22 King's Langley-Crewe Basford Hall (7R02, 5L), Roade cutting
Adding a splash of bright blue to Roade cutting 66148 'Maritime Intermodal Seven' brings up the rear of the returning 7R02 11.22 King's Langley to Crewe Basford Hall engineering train. The variety of wagons in the view from this reverse angle of the train gives an idea of their diverse nature. 66050 'EWS Energy' was leading the train at the front. Both these locomotives are not particularly common in my photographic archive so it made a change to capture them.

DR80201, 11.05 Wembley Yard-Rugby Carriage Sidings (RT), Victoria bridge
Having been involved in trackbed maintenance overnight in the north London area Stoneblower DR80201 heads back to its base at Rugby. Running as the 11.05 Wembley Yard to Rugby CS it is seen in some pleasant sunshine passing Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton. Performing very similar functions to the tampers these YZA units maintain the profile of the ballast rather than having the tines that insert themselves into it to profile the track itself.

66432, 13.09 DIRFT-Tilbury (4L48, 70L), Victoria bridge
After some days of being electric hauled the 4L48 Tesco Express has reverted back again to diesel on this particular Sunday. With another relatively light loading 66432 makes easy work of the 13.09 Daventry (DIRFT) to Tilbury as it passes Victoria bridge near to Roade the houses if which can be seen in the background including my own!
