On a chilly and blowy morning, I popped out to capture the passing of 'The Powerful Pennine Panorama' charter. Unlike most charters that pass along the southern WCML this one took the Northampton line rather than the 'old route' via Weedon.

Unfortunately, the bright start promised by the Met. Office did not materialise with a cloudy and grey morning instead so the spot that I chose to photograph the outward 1Z79 charter from Euston to Leeds was not actually required! Also, I was hoping that the oddly named 'Powerful Pennine Panorama', led by 67020 would have fitted in the gap that I had identified but, as can be seen, 67005 'Queen's Messenger' is blocked from view at the rear of the train by small trees that have grown significantly since I last visited this location near to the village of Milton Malsor near Northampton.

A lightly panned shot of 67005 'Queen's Messenger' at the rear of the outward 'Powerful Pennine Panorama' charter as it passes Milton Malsor due south of Northampton. Running as 1Z79 the charter left Euston at 07.00 arriving bang on time at Leeds having taken a circuitous route via the Trent Valley, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Victoria and then the Calder Valley arriving at its destination from the west.
