As we usually do, my wife and took the train from Sheringham to Norwich just for a day out! The weather was unseasonably warm reaching the dizzy heights of eighteen degress!

971410, 755410, 09.44 Sheringham-Norwich (2S09,1E), Sheringham station
Stadler Rail refers to this centrally positioned motorised carriage as a 'power pack'. On either side is a Deutz V8 sixteen litre diesel engine with a corridor down the centre that certainly gets hot when the engines are running but is surprisingly quiet! The engines provide power for the train and all its support systems and certainly seem to do a good job with it having rapid acceleration. Due to the engines located in this position, the floors of the carriages are able to be lower than normal very similar to many continental trains giving the train a distinct air of roominess. Power pack 971410 is part of set 755410 seen at Sheringham station that will soon work a Norwich service.

755410, 09.44 Sheringham-Norwich (2S09, 1E), Cromer station
My wife and I travelled to Norwich aboard GA's 755410 that is seen here at Cromer station with the driver walking along the length of the train to join the now leading cab in a very similar scene to one taken a few years previously, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30021249668/x2-t-170270-le-09-46-sheringham-norwich. We travelled on the Stadler train as the 09.44 Sheringham to Norwich and, as I commented last year when we did the same thing, the train was excellent with even Mrs. On The Up Fast commenting positively on the journey; praise indeed!

153376 & 153311, stabled, Norwich Yard
With the rollout of new stock by various operators underway a number of Class 153 were surplus to requirements. Some moved to other operators to augment their services with Network Rail purchasing three in May 2021. Two of the three that they acquired are seen stabled in Norwich Yard adjacent to the station. 153376 and 153311 still wear their EMR liveries but are now debranded having the addition of various recording equipment. I suspect that Network Rail will get round to painting them in their house yellow paint scheme unless the take over by the fabled GBR changes this? The last time that I saw 153311 was less than a year ago with it heading to Wolverton Works for attention just six months before its change of ownership, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29876083204/x153311-10-30-etches-park-wolverton

170531, EM 11.40 Nottingham-Norwich (1L08, 9L), Norwich station
The shine on 170531 is mirror-like! It is seen approaching Norwich having worked the 11.40 from Nottingham arriving a little late. This member of the class is one of five that were acquired from West Midlands Trains last year and have been renumbered from the 1706XX series. This one has had its engines and exhaust system tweaked by its owner, Porterbrook, with it hailed as being a 'low emission train'.

745002, GA 12.30 London Liverpool Street-Norwich (1P28, RT), Norwich station
Greater Anglia's 745002 drifts silently into Norwich station working the 12.30 ex London Liverpool Street service. The squadron takeover of these ultra modern-looking trains has transformed the travelling experience of passengers on the GEML who have endured other operators' cast-offs for many years starting with the Class 86/Mk. II combinations followed by the Class 90/Mk. III 'upgrade' in the early 2000s!

754403, ECS move, Norwich station
This mysterious little move by 754403 from Crown Point into the yard at Norwich station I was unable to identfy! Normally it would appear to have been a logistics move in order to stable a unit for use later in the day perhaps but in this case, the unit contained a number of orange-clad staff sitting in the leading coach. With its pantograph raised, at least it was not under diesel power from the 'power pack' coach.

745002, GA 12.30 London Liverpool Street-Norwich (1P28, RT) & 744401, GA 14.27 Norwich-Stansted Airport (1K81, RT), Norwich station
To the right 744401 departs from Norwich station working the 1K81 14.27 service to Standsted Airport. To its left, the 12.30 from Liverpool Street has recently arrived worked by 745002. Notice the Norwich cathedral spire, measuring at three hundred and fifteen feet, emerging from the roof of 744401, this is the second-tallest in England after Salisbury.

745005, GA 14.30 Norwich-London Liverpool Street (1P45, RT) & 745002, GA 12.30 London Liverpool Street-Norwich (1P28, RT), Norwich station
At Norwich station 745005 to the left will work the 14.30 1P45 service to Liverpool Street whilst 745002 has recently arrived with the 12.30 from London. The latter will work the 15.00 return service to the capital once a body of staff has cleaned and serviced the train in the intervening forty-five minutes or so.

Vinyl, 170531, EM 11.40 Nottingham-Norwich (1L08, 9L), Norwich station
A close up of one of two vinyls applied to the cab ends of 170531 (formally West Midlands Trains 170631) as it stands at Norwich station. The Class 170 is one member of the class that is undergoing evaluation trials following work to its engines and exhaust system by its owner Porterbrook. The trail was unveiled at a press launch at Derby station last summer, see..... https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2021/07/porterbrooks-600k-trial-with-class-170-train-between-derby-and-matlock-reduces-emissions-by-80.html

755410, 14.45 Norwich-Sheringham (2S22, RT), Norwich station
The train that my wife and I took back from Norwich to Sheringham worked by 755410. We left at 14.45 arriving bang on time some fifty minutes later at the North Norfolk seaside resort. This was the same unit that we travelled out on in the morning.

Tickets, Sheringham-Norwich-Sheringham
Our return tickets from Sheringham to Norwich. Unfortunately, we could benefit from our two-together discount as I had left my 'phone behind when we left the caravan in the morning! As I had opted for the online version of the card with it being contained within the app. on my 'phone I could offer no proof to the guard. Apart from this slight irritant it did of course mean that my steps were not being counted throughout our visit to Norwich necessitating a power walk on our return in the late afternoon in order to make the magic ten thousand!
