Prior to a trip to Wells-next-the-Sea, I once again headed to Weybourne to capture the first services of the day on the North Norfolk Railway.

E56062 & E51188, Weybourne-Sheringham ECS, Weybourne
Making a smokey departure from Weybourne resident Class 101 DMU heads towards Sheringham in preparation to work the first service train of the day on the North Norfolk Railway. E56062 and E51188 are passing one of a number of somersault signals on the line that are totally in keeping with its former Midland & Great Northern Railway and Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway heritage.

53809, 10.00 Sheringham-Holt, Priory Crossing TG122422
Despite the concerned looks from the driver and fireman leaning from 53809's cab, I am not in an exposed position standing on the right side of a gate at an occupation crossing on the approach to Weybourne! With the North Sea just visible in the background the former S & D 7F is working relatively hard on the climb towards Weybourne leading the 10.00 Sheringham to Holt train. Notice the forty and a half milepost to the left of the train indicating the distance from South Lyn Junction.

E51188 & E56062, 10.40 Sheringham-Holt, Weybourne station
The ultimate in lazy photography! Taken sitting on a platform bench at Weybourne station whilst enjoying a coffee the 10.40 Sheringham to Holt NNR service arrives at the station. There were a reassuringly sufficient number of passengers aboard the Class 101 DMU composed of E51188 and E56062 despite it being such a dull Monday morning and not yet a holiday week.

Exchanging the tokens, 53809, 10.45 Holt-Sheringham, Weybourne station
As 53809 arrives tender first at Weybourne station the driver and the signalman exchange their tokens in a practice perfect manner! The S & D 7F is working the 10.45 Holt to Sheringham service with the balancing service worked by a Class 101 DMU out of sight on the other platform. Interestingly, a number of these sturdy and robust locomotives were actually designed to run tender first for many of their journeys when in service from new on the Somerset and Dorset line as they were too long for the railway's turntables until the railway acted on this. I can imagine that running from Bath to Bournemouth back in the 1920s tender first was not a pleasant experience for the driver and fireman especially during inclement weather!
