Prior to our trip to Felbrigg and then on to Cromer I popped down to Weybourne station while my wife was readying herself for the day!

53809, 10.00 Sheringham-Holt, Weybourne station
On a particularly dull morning, former S & D 7F 53809 arrives at Weybourne station working the first train of the day, the 10.00 Sheringham to Holt. As is common practice on the railway, this service arrives at Weybourne 'wrong platform' in order to unload supplies and provisions at the station largely to keep the café and shop stocked. In the adjacent bay platform is stabled WD 2-10-0 90775 ‘The Royal Norfolk Regiment’ and D6732.

53809, 10.00 Sheringham-Holt, Weybourne station
This photograph does not reveal the situation at Weybourne station on this damp October morning but 7F 53809 was struggling to get the 10.00 Sheringham to Holt service underway. Whether it was driver inexperience (he did look particularly young!) or a combination of other factors but the locomotive was really struggling for traction. It was making extremely slow and laboured progress with the lightest opening of the regulator causing a dramatic wheel slip. This situation continued until the train had passed and was well out of sight on the climb of Kelling bank.

E51188 & E56062, 10.40 Sheringham-Holt, Weybourne station
One of the North Norfolk Railway's resident Class 101 DMU sets arrives at Weybourne station. Working the 10.40 Sheringham to Holt service E51188 (leading) and E56062 (trailing) will have a wait for the balancing working from Holt to arrive and for the tokens to be exchanged. Many examples of these units have entered preservation with the class widely recognised as being some of the most successful and longest-lived of BR's First Generation DMUs.

E51188 & E56062, 10.40 Sheringham-Holt & 53809, 10.45 Holt-Sheringham, Weybourne station
As former S & D 7F 53809 arrives tender first at Weybourne station with the 10.45 Holt to Sheringham service E51188 and E56062 wait patiently working the 10.40 Sheringham to Holt train. According to the NNR's website 53809 (then numbered 89) was involved in a fatal incident thus described 'On 20 November 1929, locomotive No. 89 (Later 53809) Was taking a freight train north towards Bath and when travelling through Combe Down Tunnel due to the train moving slowly (which wasn’t helped due to the weight of the train and the stop at Midford) the crew of the engine were overcome by the smoke resulting in the train running away down the hill crashing in the goods yard outside Bath Green Park, the driver Henry Jennings and two shunters in the yard were killed in the accident'.
