A lovely walk across the damp fields in the half-light with that distinctive autumn chill in the air to capture the passage of the up Highland sleeper service.

Class 390, VT 06.20 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1G02), Roade Hill
An unidentified Class 390 Pendolino approaches Roade working the 1G02 06.20 Euston to Birmingham service. I was pushing the abilities of the camera in this light with this photograph needing a fair bit of Photoshop 'treatment'!

90039, CS 20.44 Inverness, 21.43 Aberdeen & 19.50 Fort William-London Euston sleeper (1M16), Roade Hill, Roade Hill
A bit of an identity thing going on here! 90039 is on-hire to Caledonian Sleeper in order to haul the 20.44 Inverness/21.43 Aberdeen/19.50 Fort William to London Euston sleeper. However, the EWS branded and rather tatty looking Class 90 is itself being operated by DB Schenker who acquired EWS back in November 2007. The train is seen passing south near Roade in Northamptonshire with the early morning light just beginning to illuminate the scene so it's shame that I have fluffed the composure partly caused by me teetering on my step ladder trying to avoid the palisade fencing getting in the frame; that's my excuse anyway!

66740, 02.15 Felixstowe South-Hams Hall (4M01), Roade Hill
Named just three weeks ago at Norwich station, 66740 'Sarah' passes Roade Hill with Victoria bridge seen in the background. It is leading the 4M01 02.15 Felixstowe to Hams Hall Freightliner. The GBRf Class 66 is named after a member of the company's finance staff in line with their recently adopted inclusiveness policy and according to their Facebook page it appears to have gone down well, see..... https://www.facebook.com/GBRailfreight/posts/66740-is-the-latest-of-our-locos-to-be-named-after-one-of-our-office-girls-in-a-/681188878630722/

350254, LM 07.00 Northampton-London Euston (1N82), Roade Hill
Catching some welcome early morning light 350254 and two other units pass Roade Hill working the 07.00 Northampton to Euston commuter service. Despite the shortening days and the inevitable crash towards winter, I love the lighting at this time of year particularly in the early morning making the effort to get up at get out!

390125, VT 05.27 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1R05), Roade Hill
The 05.27 Liverpool to Euston Virgin service passes between Roade and Ashton on the southern WCML with just over half an hour left of its journey from Merseyside. The train is being worked by a smart-looking 390125 catching the early morning sun now that it has risen well above the horizon behind me.

Class 390, VT 06.36 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H61), Roade Hill
An unidentified Class 390 heads north passing under Victoria bridge just south of Roade. Just catching a little early morning light being too deep in the small cutting to be directly illuminated the Virgin Pendolino is working the 06.36 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.

390154, VT 05.33 Preston-London Euston (1R07), Roade Hill
Named just eight weeks ago at Euston by the Duke of Cambridge 390154 'Matthew Flinders' passes the chilly Northamptonshire countryside working the 1R07 05.33 Preston to Euston train.

350256, LM 05.18 Crewe-London Euston (1N00), Roade Hill
350256 leads two other London Midland Desiro units working the 05.18 Crewe to Euston morning commuter service. Bathed in some bright early morning sunshine the trio is seen passing between the villages of Roade and Ashton in Northamptonshire.

66589, 04.10 Crewe Basford Hall-Felixstowe North (4L89), Roade Hill
Looking as if it has been in receipt of a recent coat of paint 66589 leads the 4L89 04.10 Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe Freightliner. It is seen on the southern WCML approaching the village of Ashton between Milton Keynes and Northampton.

325004, 06.40 Willesden-Warrington (1F00), Roade Hill
325004 leads another two units as it heads north on the up fast line working the 06.40 Willesden PRDC to Warrington morning Royal Mail train. The train is seen near the village of Ashton in Northamptonshire with one of my favoured locations, Victoria bridge, in the background.
