Two walks out from home to the lineside today found me in the morning photographing another 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'. Later, around lunchtime, as the sun had decided to put in an appearance, I went out to capture the passing of a Class 37 on a light engine move.

66559, 03.25 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 3E), site of Roade station
On a dull and grey June morning (like so many this summer!) 66559 leads the 4L52 03.25 Garston to London Gateway past the site of Roade station. Coming up to its twentieth birthday this member of the class was emitting a lot of visual exhaust and, as can be seen here, it is looking a little tatty. One wonders if some extra heavy attention is needed rather like in the good old days of BR when locomotives had complete overhauls more resembling a nut and bolt rebuild.

86259, the outward leg of 'The Cumbrian Mountain Express', 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86, 26L), site of Roade station
On such a dull morning it was pleasing that 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' was leading this train painted in a combination of such bright colours! Its Electric Blue paint scheme certainly lifts it from the dreary background and the equally dull stock making for a reasonable photograph. It is seen passing the site of Roade station leading the outward leg of the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' that left Euston at 07.10 heading for Carnforth where 35018 'British India Line' would lead the charter on to Carlisle.

37800, 11.58 Wembley HS-Derby RTC (0M57, 5L), Roade Hill
I had been tracking the progress of the 0M57 on my phone for some time leaving home to photograph it at my chosen location as it was passing Cheddington. As it was a light engine and that a bit of sun was a possibility I decided that it would be a good idea to revisit this spot on Roade Hill. Whilst the alpacas were not in their field in the foreground that would create a little extra interest 37800 'Cassiopeia' certainly makes up for it operating the 11.58 Wembley to Derby RTC light engine move. Close examination of the photograph reveals that the driver is leaning out of the window and that he appears to be looking straight at me.

390010 'Cumbrian Spirit' sweeps around the reverse curve just south of Roade at Victoria bridge working the Avanti West Coast 11.47 Liverpool Lime Street to Euston 1A32 service.

66089, 11.38 Wembley-DIRFT (6M45, 45L), Victoria bridge
The regular as clockwork 6M45 bottled water train approaches journey's end at Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. On this sunny Saturday afternoon and in tricky lighting 66089 leads the 11.38 Dollands Moor to DIRFT (Daventry) train composed of its customary rake of European Cargo Wagons.
