66547, 07.30 Birmingham lnternational-Willesden HOBC (6Y47), Roade cutting
The 07.30 Birmingham International to Willesden HOBC (High Output Ballast Cleaner) makes its way very slowly through Roade cutting with 66547 labouring at the front. This train dubbed the 'drain train', is used all over the network to remove ballast, clean it and return it in one fell swoop.

The rear of the 07.30 Birmingham International to Willesden HOBC train makes its way south through Roade cutting with 66561 doing its best to shove the huge train from the rear.

47818, 08.23 London Euston-Milton Keynes via Northampton (1Z91), Roade cutting
DRS' 47818 leads the 1Z91 08.23 Euston to Milton Keynes Northern Belle charter through Roade cutting. The train has already passed Milton Keynes once but the relatively short journey from London did not give passengers enough time to quaff their champaign and eat their grand breakfasts so the train is making a return run to Northampton.

350129, LM 08.26 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (2Y06), Roade cutting
Now ten years old the Class 350 Desiros have done good work and have proved to be extremely reliable. Whilst they are relatively hum-drum and every day photographing them reinforces my policy of recording all aspects of the railway and not just the glitzy bits! 350129 works the 08.26 Euston to Birmingham New Street through Roade cutting.

390157, VT 08.05 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A02), Roade cutting
390157 (the last of the class) 'Chad Varah' passes through Roade cutting with Virgin's 1A02 the 08.05 Manchester to Euston service. This is the first up Manchester express on a Sunday getting passengers to the capital in just about two hours.

47790, 08.23 London Euston-Milton Keynes via Northampton (1Z91), Roade cutting
Having made the seemingly unnecessary return trip to Northampton from Milton Keynes 47790 'Galloway Princess' brings the train south again. It is leading Northern Belle's British Grand Prix charter taking racegoers to Milton Keynes for onward road transportation to Silverstone. This Class 47 has carried many numbers in its life but being largely a Scottish and East Coast locomotive it was one that I did not cop back in my younger spotting days.
