With my finger still pulsing and wrapped up like the archetypal cartoon injury I made my way to Roade cutting for the passage of a bit of a rarity this far south a Class 56. It may have been just a light engine but with the sun out it was well worth a walk out from home.

Not content with sixty-seven sets (divided into two subsets, 3501XX and 3502XX) London Midland are about to introduce a further ten of these highly successful units to be designated 3503XX. This is, of course, in addition to TransPennine Express currently introducing ten of their own designated 3504XX for use on their Anglo Scottish services, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29872327204/x92044-350406-350407-04-20-dollands

66503, 10.14 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M20), Roade cutting
66503 was named 'The Railway Magazine' back in 2004 when it was just five years old. It is seen doing what it was designed to do, namely hauling a heavy Freightliner service, in this case, the 4M20 10.14 Felixstowe to Lawley Street. The train is seen making its way through Roade cutting.

56312, 12.11 Barrow Hill-Willesden LE (0Z57), Roade cutting
Despite having a relatively high number 56312 'Jeremiah Dixon' is in fact the earliest and oldest survivor of the once one hundred and thirty-five strong class of locomotives. As a young spotter back in 1977 the 56s were viewed as being very modern and hi-tech (that they were of course!) and as a portent of things to come, the first thirty were manufactured abroad, in this case in Romania. Today, some thirty-seven years later it is remarkable that a number of these locomotives are still in use on the national network. Now operated by DCR the veteran diesel passes through Roade cutting as the 0Z57 12.11 Barrow Hill to Willesden light engine. Notice that I was almost bowled by the 4M20 Freightliner hence the rather head-on and portrait composition!
