The day dawned a beautiful spring day so whilst my wife was taking her usual hour or so to get ready I nipped off from the Travelodge in the car back to the nearby Frinkley Lane.

Last autumn Sky broadcast a new series entitled 'All Aboard East Coast Trains' and to mark its launch InterCity 225 set BN25 was selected and painted in the satellite broadcaster's colours and adorned with its logos. It also featured vinyl images of the characters involved in the programme. Having seen the set for the first time yesterday afternoon here it is again returning south at Frinkley Lane crossing with 82216 leading the 05.48 Edinburgh to King's Cross service.

91109 'Sir Bobby Robson' leads the 1F08 08.30 King's Cross to Edinburgh past Frinkley Lane crossing between Grantham and Newark. This Class 91 was named in a ceremony at Newcastle station on 29.03.11 to commemorate the Newcastle lad and English footballer/manager's by his widow Elsie and Alan Shearer, patron of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The naming of the loco. marked the resumption of a naming policy by the East Coast.

Frinkley Lane was utterly quiet and peaceful on this early on this spring morning that made waiting for trains to pass a very pleasurable experience, especially when compared to other occasions when we pursue our hobby in very different conditions! I whiled away the time between trains watching a blue tit that had chosen a nesting spot down inside the pole of a lineside warning sign frenetically feeding its brood. 91014 does its best to destroy this bucolic atmosphere as it passes leading the 08.35 King's Cross to Leeds service.

Hull Trains' 180109 roars south working the 08.25 Hull to King's Cross service. The Cummins QSK19 engines (one per coach) use Voith Hydraulic transmission to provide power to the wheels in the best traditions of British Railways Western Region's early forrays into dieselisation; something as a West Country lad that I fully appreciate!

Just five minutes after 180109 sped south past Frinkley Lane in its Hull Trains livery 180114, wearing a very different look, does the same working the 07.52 Bradford Interchange to King's Cross 1A70 service.

I saw and photographed the (last?) remaining GNER liveried Class 91 in the form of 91118 at the same location yesterday afternoon but from the other side of the line at Frinkley lane, see........ https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30012187005/x91118-17-21-peterborough-leeds-1d22 On this morning it is leading the 1S09 09.00 King's Cross to Edinburgh.

With West Hill Farm in the background, East Coast DVT 82200 leads the 09.15 Leeds to King's Cross service past Frinkley lane crossing between Grantham and Newark. This particular DVT gained notoriety being the one at the rear of the 12.10 King's Cross to Leeds express that was derailed at Hatfield on 17.10.00 with the tragic death of four passengers. The DVT was derailed but remained upright and was largely undamaged.
