Demolition of old Northampton station
The demolition of the former Northampton station building is well underway. There is no doubt what part of the building is seen in this image taken from platform one!

Demolition of old Northampton station
The new Northampton station building opened some three months ago and is seen in the background in this picture. In the foreground is the framework of the old station, designed by the architect Ray Moorcroft, that was opened in 1966. The view is looking through one of the three 'cowsheds' as they were rather unfortunately referred to!

This particular area of the former station at Northampton was once packed with commuters being the entrance on to platform one through the two posts to the right. The space beyond where the stack of blocks are standing was once occupied by a Pumpkin café. Once the station structure has been removed over the coming months it is to be returned to platform use again with the area to the far left to be part of a taxi rank and turning circle.

350124, LM 08.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W06), Northampton station
350124 pauses at Northampton station forming the 08.33 Birmingham New Street to Euston 1W06 service. The white doors to the left and the yellow railings to the right mark the location of the gargantuan temporary footbridge that was installed by Network Rail whilst the old one was demolished and the new one built, seen in the background above the roof of the Desiro.

350112, LM 19.46 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y79), London Euston station
As it is the end of April at nearly 20.00 there is still plenty of light entering Euston's platforms through the glass. Thus, 350112 is well lit as it stands at platform seven ready to the 19.46 to Birmingham New Street. My wife and I took this train back to Northampton after our busy day out in the capital.

Tickets, Northampton-London Euston-Northampton
Our tickets for our day out in London. With our two together discount loaded the fare was a shade under £5 each way that is very good value; and, even better, everything ran to time!
