On the first day of the school summer holiday, I went down the hill from home to Limpley Stoke in the Avon valley.

31421, unidentified down working, Limpley Stoke As a local old favourite, 31421 was seen frequently in the West Country on a variety of workings. Here, it is seen passing through the Avon Valley at Limpley Stoke between Bradford-on-Avon and Bath. I do not know the working but it will have been a Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol Temple Meads and/or Cardiff Central service. 31421 was withdrawn in 1997 lingering for ten years at EMR in Kingsbury being cut-up in 2007. Notice the vintage bullhead track still in use and the gold Ford Granda coupé parked in the car park. Keywords: 31421 down working Limpley Stoke
47306, unidentified coal train, Limpley Stoke I was pleased to see Toton's 47306 here at Limpley Stoke in the Avon Valley as it was a cop! It is seen leading a mysterious coal hopper train, these were unusual in this part of the world. This class 47 is still with us and can be enjoyed on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, that is when it has emerged from the workshops after a complete overhaul. Keywords: 47306 coal train Limpley Stoke
31412, unidentified up working, Limpley Stoke Another local class 31 heads along the Avon Valley with a Portsmouth Harbour working that would have originated at either Bristol Temple Meads or Cardiff Central. The train is hauled by 31412 and is approaching Limpley Stoke taken on a section of line that was three-track wide until the third was removed when the Camerton branch was closed in the 1950s. This branch and section of line were used for the filming of the Titfield Thunderbolt film of 1953. Down below and to the left of the fence is the B3108 road so I am not at all sure as to how I got to this position to take the picture, and to be honest, I don't want to remember!
