222016, EM 13.47 London St. Pancras-Corby (1M28, RT), London St. Pancras station
Under the roof of St. Pancras station, that was opened in 2007, 222016 waits to depart with the 13.47 to Corby. This was our train back to Wellingborough. My wife commented at how much nicer the seats were on this East Midlands train than on our more usual London Northwestern class 350. Apart from the vibration and noise from the under-carriage Cummins engines, the ambiance was better in the Meridians but the ride was a bit jittery on some of the Midland mainline track work.

374013, ES 14.04 London St. Pancras International-Brussels Midi (9136) & 222016, EM 13.47 London St. Pancras-Corby (1M28, RT), London St. Pancras station
The 14.04 Eurostar service to Brussels Midi waits at platform five of St. Pancras International station to be worked by 374013. This is one of seventeen members of this class that was introduced in 2015. I must admit, I do not think that the 374s are as good looking as the ageing class 373s. Next to the Eurostar at platform four is 222016 that is about to leave with the far less exotic 13.47 to Corby.

66619, 10.00 Sharnbrook Junction-Toton North yard, between Bedford & Sharnbrook Junction
As our train was coming into Bedford station, the tail end of an engineering train was seen on the down slow line heading north. It took us some time to catch it up but we did between Bedford and Sharnbrook Junction and I was pleased to see 66619 'Derek W. Johnson MBE' leading the train. Taken through the window of the Merdian that we were travelling on and not a great picture but this was a 'photographic cop' so it made the cut! The 66 was working the massively delayed 10.00 Sharnbrook Junction to Toton North yard engineering train that, at first, headed south to Bedford where the 66 ran round to take the train back north again. It eventually arrived at Toton over two hundred minutes late.

Tickets, Wellingborough-London St. Pancras-Wellingborough
Our return tickets from Wellingborough to St. Pancras. Unfortunately, we had no choice but to travel from Wellingborough, paying handsomely for the privilege, as Euston was closed for HS2 engineering works. Time after time, the East Midland fares are pound per mile a lot more than the London Northwestern equivalent journey, one that is virtually identical both in distance and time.
