A quick visit to Waterloo while my wife got ready! I was able to view the landscape photographic exhibition that was up on the mezzanine level at the station. The journey home from Euston was straightforward.

Former Eurostar platforms under development, London Waterloo station
I took a very similar picture last year and I have to say that the amount that has been achieved in exactly a year is not exactly a lot! A look at.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/v/photos/21936chg/25090990804/former-eurostar-platforms-under reveals that the ramp is complete and I read in the railway press that it has actually been used. However, once again, I am disturbed by the disappointing progress that Network Rail make on grand projects like this despite all their protestation when trying to justify shutting huge parts of the network over busy periods like Christmas and New Year!

A sea of red and blue at Waterloo station with plenty of South Western Railway trains still in their old South West Trains livery.

Concourse, London Waterloo station
A lone figure waits for his train to be called on the concourse at Waterloo station whilst all around him people are on the move!
Concourse, London Waterloo station
Whilst standing on the mezzanine level high above the concourse at Waterloo I became conscious of the chap simp[ly leaning on his case awaiting his train to be called. As I was observing him, a pretty full train from Exeter St. David's arrived and disgorged its passengers. They all rush around this chap as they make their way busily on to wherever they happen to be going. In Photoshop I desaturated the image and played a little with the levels. I also allowed the original colour of the chap waiting to be re-introduced as a new layer. Finally, I introduced a little noise and grain that gives the image a more genuine kind on black and white 35mm feel.

350251, LN 13.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1W15, 6L), London Euston station
At the far side of Euston on platform 17 our train back home waits to leave. 350251 was not particulary busy working the 13.49 to Birmingham New Street that my family and I took as far as Northampton.

66136 & 66121, stabled, Wembley Yard
66121 and 66136 stand in Wembley yard at the head of a ballast train. There were none scheduled to leave or arrive on RTT so I could not identify what the working was. 66136 still looks very smart in its DB bright red livery complete with 'Yiwu-London Train' vinyls. The loco. was repainted and had the vinyls applied in January 2017 to commemorate the first 12 000 mile Freightliner service from Yiwu in China to Barking in London.

70010, 09.25 Southampton-Crewe Basford Hall (4M28), Westbridge, Northampton
As we were travelling back from London, we overtook this freight working at Milton Keynes. As I had to walk and collect the car I figured, quite correctly as it turned out, that it would be only a short time behind our train. As I was crossing Westbridge in Northampton just south of the station, it appeared around the corner; sometimes it's great when things just come together! 70010 leads the 4M28 09.25 Southampton to Ditton Freightliner that, unusually today was terminating at Crewe Basford Hall

Tickets, London Euston-Northampton
Our return tickets. I din't think that nearly £72 is the best value for money, they are advanced off-peak return with railcards after all!
