After a couple of lovely autumn days with clear blue skies, the weather has turned on this day with overcast conditions. While my wife and son were getting ready for the day I popped out to take a few photographs around Weybourne.

The North Norfolk Railway's first service of the day approaches Weybourne worked by one of the railway's resident Class 101 DMUs. M51192 and M56352 work the 09.45 Sheringham to Holt train about to pass the Weybourne home signal complete with its sighting bard.

Having been fired much earlier in the morning by the dedicated staff of the North Norfolk Railway B12 8572 is ready for a day's work on the railway. It runs light engine tender first from Weybourne to Sheringham. After yesterday's sunshine, today had started grey and dull with, looking at the way the exhaust is heading, a brisk north-westerly wind off the North Sea.

D5631, stabled, Weybourne Yard
From the start of dieselisation, the A1A A1A Type 2s were synonymous with the Eastern Counties and found in the livery as demonstrated here by D5631. This locomotive is a regular performer on the North Norfolk Railway being versatile and reliable. It is a distinct possibility that it would have worked along the former M&GNR route between Sheringham and Norwich via Melton Constable before the route closed passing where it is now stabled in Weybourne Yard.

8572, 10.30 Sheringham-Holt, Weybourne station
For trains heading for Holt, the departure from Weybourne is always one that train crews have to get right due to the immediate steep climb of just over a mile to Kelling Heath. One of the problems they face with this challenge is preventing damaging wheel slip on the wet track under the trees at Weybourne. The crew of B12 8572, whilst opening the regulator fairly wide, will be ready to feather it if they feel slip of the driving taking place. The train is the first up steam service of the day, the 10.30 Sherinham to Holt.

A second photograph of the 10.30 Sheringham to Holt NNR service as it gets away from Weybourne station. On a quiet Sunday morning, the peace and quiet of the Norfolk countryside around Kelling is often disturbed by the bark of a steam locomotive as it climbs the bank towards Holt; today will be no exception!

Former LNER B12 8572 is gingerly brought down Kelling Bank tender first on the approach to Kelling Heath Park station. The crew are looking out for any passengers waiting on the platform and the guard will have already checked to see if any passengers from Holt will wish to alight. If neither is the case then the train will not stop continuing carefully down the bank to Weybourne.
