During an hour's walk around the village on the first day of my extended Christmas break I captured a variety of workings including a Northern interloper and a triple-header - who said the modern railway is a boring one!

66756, 10.26 Felixstowe South-Trafford Park (4M22, 6L), site of Roade station
66756 'Royal Corps Of Signals' passes Roade in the late afternoon light leading GBRf's 10.26 Felixstowe South to Trafford Park service. This Class 66 was named back in the summer of 2017 at Swanage as part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations.

150004, 10.32 Neville Hill TMD-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5H70, 29E), site of Roade station
Now approaching its fortieth birthday Northern's 150004 passes Roade as the 5H70 10.32 Neville Hill to Wolverton Centre Sidings transfer. The unit will be in the works for some weeks while various repairs and updates take place before returning north again. 150004 is one of the very early units that was built as a two-car set that was later re-configured to three cars. To date, this is my only photograph of this unit.

807001, VT 14.16 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G26, 1L), site of Roade station
With the timetable change having taken place last Sunday (15.12.24) the universally disliked Voyagers have finally been ousted from the WCML with the Avero takeover complete. 807001 passes Roade working the 14.16 Euston to Birmingham New Street service.

730234 & 730209, 14.01 Crewe-Wembley Yard (2Q94, 7E) & 390123, VT 14.33 London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street (1H69, 31L), Hyde Road bridge
Getting ready to enter service 730234 and 730209 head south through Roade cutting as the 2Q94 14.01 Crewe to Wembley Yard run. Soon, these smart new trains will enter service with London Northwestern on this route with the 350/2 subset going off-lease. As the train passes, 390123 heads north working the 14.33 Euston to Liverpool service.

90041, 90013 & 90004, 09.32 Felixstowe North-Ditton (4M88, 4E), Hyde Road bridge
With potentially fifteen thousand horsepower on tap, the 4M88 09.32 Felixstowe to Ditton passes Roade. However, close examination reveals that 90004 (the third locomotive in the lineup) has its pantograph lowered with just 90041 and 90013 under power. It could have been failure that caused this event but as the train was running to time suggests that this was not the case. Perhaps 90004 was simply being returned to Freightliner's Crewe headquarters with the train having over an hour timetabled stop at Basford Hall giving ample time to remove it from the consist. Incidentally, since it was named on 13.09.24 this is my first photograph of 90041 'Pete Waterman OBE'.
