I got up early and travelled from Hammersmith to King's Cross to see a Class 37 hauled charter at King's Cross. The station was busy with enthusiasts and I was pleasantly surprised at the number of younger lads out for some English Electric action. Perhaps this was in no small part to the self-proclaimed enthusiast and YouTube and TikTok sensation Francis Bourgeois who was also on the platform end continuing his mission 'to make trainspotting cool again.'

802304, HT 07.27 London King's Cross-Hull (1H01, 27L), London King's Cross station
Hull Trains' 802304 'William Wilberforce' stands at King's Cross. In half an hour or so it will work the 1H01 07.27 to Hull just after the charter that I have come to see departs. The modern LED lighting at Kings Cross gives a very crips and neutral look tp photographs in marked contrast to the dull sodium lighting of yesteryear, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/27444295204/x55015-21-00-london-king-s-cross

20189 & 20142, 06.42 Welwyn Garden City-London King's Cross (3Z39, 12L), London King's Cross station
Wearing a mysterious headcode 20189 leads 20142 'Sir John Betjeman' slowly into King's Cross' platform one working the 3Z39 empty stock from Welwyn Garden City. The stock would soon be filled with many enthusiasts and normals who just fancied a day out in Norwich working the 1Z39 charter to the famous East Anglian city.

37407, outward leg of the Carols at Norwich Cathedral, 07.22 London King's Cross-Norwich (1Z39, RT), London King's Cross station
Looking superb in its large logo livery 37407 'Blackpool Tower' stands idle at the rear of the ECS of the Carols at Norwich Cathedral charter at a dark King's Cross. Within a few minutes, it should be started up and ready to depart at 07.22. Unfortunately, due to its late inbound arrival, this did not happen with it eventually leaving about fifteen minutes late. I have seen and photographed this Class 37 a number of times most notably when it was hired in by Greater Anglia in 2018, ironically on tracks that it would be re-visiting later on this day, see... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/23911824404/x37407-37405-2j80-cantley-station

37407 'Blackpool Tower' stands at the head of the 1Z39 07.22 King's Cross to Norwich (with an optional return run to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft) prior to departure from London. By now it was nearly 07.30 and the driver had not arrived to start the veteran Type 3 up. It does not look very busy but behind me were probably twenty-five enthusiasts all eager to get their own photographs and witness the departure.

Francis Bourgeois & 37407, outward leg of the Carols at Norwich Cathedral, 07.22 London King's Cross-Norwich (1Z39, RT), London King's Cross station
The Carols at Norwich Cathedral charter had grabbed the attention of celebrity railway flogger Francis Bourgeois who turned up at King's Cross to record its departure. On speaking to him he was intending to 'chase' the charter by train and capture it at Peterborough, March and of all places Berney Arms; I wished him good luck with that! When he uploads his video on YouTube I will put a link here. 37407 'Blackpool Tower' can be seen in the background waiting to leave, somewhat late, with the 07.22 to Norwich.

As a Pendolino departs from Euston our train home from London to Northampton waits at platform six. My wife and I travelled aboard 350234 as the 11.56 Euston to Birmingham New Street.

68013, 06.27 Crewe Gresty Bridge-Wembley LMD (0A68, 9E), Wembley Yard
Passing Wembley Yard 68013 'Peter Wreford-Bush' is seen having just arrived a few minutes earlier as the 0A68 06.27 from Crewe Gresty Bridge light engine. This is a regular turn on a Saturday morning with the the Class 68 returning to its Chiltern tracks having undergone servicing and an exam at Crewe the previous week. Royal Mail's Park Royal distribution depot can be seen in the background that until recently utilised a small fleet of Class 325s to move mail around the country.

The 4L44 05.54 Trafford Park to Tilbury Freightliner service has recently arrived at Wembley Yard hauled by 66415 'You Are Never Alone'. This service is often electric hauled but not today with one of Freightliner's bright Genesee & Wyoming liveried Class 66s leading.

Tickets, London Euston-Northampton
Our return tickets from Euston to Northampton are seen. For a change, there was a full ticket inspection during the journey back from London including a request to view our Two Together railcard which is something that very rarely occurs.
