A smashing evening for me to go out locally to Milton Malsor to see the returning Canterbury Tales charter. Unfortunately, signallers spoilt my plan!

350111, LM 18.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston, Milton Malsor
The evening's 18.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston captures some welcome late soft sun as it passes Milton Malsor. As can be seen, palisade fencing has recently been installed at this spot so my image of 350111 has been taken now using some steps to gain some height.

350114 & 350127, LM 19.13 London Euston-Birmingham New Street, Milton Malsor
350114 and 350127 approach Northampton passing the village of Milton Malsor working the 19.13 Euston to Birmingham New Street. As can be seen, this location is sixty-two and a half miles from Euston with this train taking just over an hour to reach this point. I like the sycamore (?) tree to the left of the train picked out by the field of fully flowering oilseed rape and the evening sky.

66207, 16.57 Halewood-Southampton Eastern Docks (6O38), Milton Malsor
The first of two up cartics within about fifteen minutes of each other passes Milton Malsor between Northampton and Roade. Catching some glints from the setting sun EWS liveried 66207 leads the 6O38 16.57 Halewood to Southampton Docks. The train appeared to be well-loaded with JLR vehicles going for export but it was difficult to see exactly what they were through the protective skirting.

90035, 16.31 Garston-Dagenham (6L48), MIlton Malsor
Just over ten minutes after the last car train headed south another one appears! Whilst the first one was carrying hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of JLR vehicles for export, this one is empty having delivered imported Ford cars to their finishing and distribution centre at Garston interestingly adjacent to where the first train originated at Halewood. 90035 leads the 16.31 Garston to Dagenham cartic empties past Milton Malsor on a glorious evening marking the final day of meteorological spring.

57314 & 57316, return leg of The Canterbury Tales Express, Dover-Skipton (1Z81), passing Blisworth from Milton Malsor
Having seen the Class 57 hauled outward leg of The Canterbury Tales charter this morning I went out on this super evening to capture its return. However, as can be seen, things have not gone quite to plan! I became suspicious that something was amiss with it running about half an hour late and then being halted on the down slow just south of Hanslope Junction. I then watched helplessly on Open Train Times as signallers set up a path for it to cross on to the down fast thus meaning that it would miss out the loop through Northampton taking the 'old' line via Weedon instead. This is the best picture that I could grab of the charter led (I believe) by 57314 with 57316 at the rear passing Blisworh seen from Milton Malsor with me standing right on the very top of my step ladder!
