An early morning out-and-back drive to the MML near Wellingborough to capture the passage of UK Railtours' The End of the Line charter. It was forecast to be a completely cloudy morning but I was blessed with some, what appeared to be, localised sunshine.

222023, EM 06.05 London St. Pancras-Nottingham (1D06, 1L), Irchester SP927667
In rather flat early morning light 222023 descends that last section of Sharnbrook Bank working the 06.06 St. Pancras to Nottingham service. Despite the cloudy conditions tarnishing the image somewhat, the rising sun can be seen illuminating the village of Irchester in the background.

For once, the weather gods are looking down on me! A fairly wide hole in the otherwise cloud-covered sky is shining down and illuminating 66097 as it approaches Irchester just south of Wellingborough. The DB Class 66 is leading the 6C76 02.00 Peak Forest to Limbury Road loaded stone train. This is the second time that I have photographed this train in the last few weeks, see ....https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30057285306/x700018-05-14-three-bridges-bedford

222005 & 222009, EM 05.30 Sheffield-London St. Pancras (1C08, 1L), Irchester SP927667
Just catching a little early morning sun the 05.30 Sheffield to St. Pancras EMR service passes Irchester a short distance south of Wellingborough. 222005 leads 222009 through the golden fields of Northamptonshire as it speeds towards the capital. Notice the HGV crossing the newly extended A45 road bridge at the top of the photograph.

360120 & 360121, EM 06.40 Corby-London St. Pancras-Nottingham (1H06, 2L), Irchester SP927667
Taking the up-fast line 360120 and 360121 pass Irchester near Wellingborough working the 06.40 Corby to St. Pancras EMR service. Whilst these former Great Eastern Desiros look smart and are far superior internally when compared to their Class 350 cousins. EMR has just announced that they are to be extensively refurbished over the next few years; no further details are available as yet.

222023, EM 06.12 Nottingham-London St. Pancras (1B10, 1L), Irchester SP927667
With the sun about to disappear behind an otherwise cloudy skyscape (as seen in the background), EMR's 222023 heads south working the 06.12 Nottingham to St. Pancras service. This view is taken from a replacement footbridge near the village of Irchester. However, as it is a replacement structure, installed as part of the line's electrification, it has the antisuicide parapets, therefore, a step ladder is required to gain this view.

66307, outward leg of The End of the Line, 05.56 East Midlands Parkway-Newport Docks (Sims Group) (1Z39, RT), Irchester SP927667
Unfortunately, this photograph of UK Railtours' The End of the Line charter is not as planned; as is too often the case in our business! The 06.56 East Midlands Parkway to Newport Docks, running as 1Z39, was shown on RTT to be running on the up fast from Kettering and Wellingborough. But, as can be seen, it was pathed on to the slow line spoiling my plans! Also, the unexpected sun that had provided some dramatic lighting for the photos taken just minutes earlier had all but disappeared behind cloud. GBRf's 66307 'Ipswich Town' is leading the charter that was to end up in the Newport Docks complex visiting, as far as it dares, the sidings of Sims Group. This is rare track and would give passengers a chance to see progress being made on the breaking and recycling of various trains that end up there for scrap. Unfortunately, in addition to the issues with regard to this photograph mentioned earlier, the going away shot also failed which would have shown 66708 'Glory to Ukraine' at the rear of the train!
