Two trips out on a rather grey Saturday morning. Firstly, just across the field from home an ECS move heading south and then later in the day, a short drive to the MML to see a Hastings Diesel charter.

92014, CS 20.45 Inverness, 21.43 Aberdeen & 19.50 Fort William (1M16, RT), between Roade & Ashton
I photographed the same class 92 hauling the 1M16 sleeper a couple of Saturdays but in a very different location, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30057003034/x92014-20-45-inverness-21-43-aberdeen This time the side on view shows it passing close to home just across the fields of ripening wheat near Roade. Not the best colour to be photographed on a dullish summer's morning against a green background- thank goodness for the white flash on the leading coach!

66537, 03.15 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M69, 2E), between Roade & Ashton
With some weak sunshine just illuminating the flanks of the train, 66537 leads the 03.15 Felixstowe to Trafford Park Freightliner between the Northamptonshire villages of Roade and Ashton. This shot is better during the winter as the lineside growth in the summer just begins to encroach a little half hiding the bogies.

66957, 02.57 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M45, 12E), between Roade & Ashton
Just a few minutes behind the previous Freightliner 66957 'Stephenson Locomotive Society 1909-2009' leads the 4M45 02.57 Felixstowe to Garston. Despite running behind the 4M69 here on the approach to Roade this service departed over an hour before the previous one!

57311, 05.33 Crewe HS-Southall LSL (5Z31, 21E), between Roade & Ashton
Passing above the embankment festooned with rosebay willowherb just south of Roade 57311 leads the 05.33 Crewe HS to Southall LSL empty stock move. The sock was to be used later in the day on the Blue Peter Demonstration Train from King's Cross to York. This is my first photograph of 57311 (formally named 'Thunderbird') since its repaint into the smart-lined black livery.

66531, 05.20 Basford Hall-London Gateway (4L52, 2E), between Roade & Ashton
66531 passes between Roade and Ashton leading the 4L52 05.20 Basford Hall to London Gateway Freightliner. Notice the herd of alpacas to the top right of the photograph, they have been resident in the field for a number of years.

1001, outward leg of The Derby Researcher, 07.02 Hastings-Derby (1Z24,3L), Highfield bridge, Oakley
Within a few minutes of arriving at my chosen location in the Bedfordshire village of Oakley The Derby Researcher charter passed worked by Hastings Diesels Limited DEMU set 1001. Leading the set is DMBS 60118 'Tunbridge Wells' which was in charge all the way from Hastings to Derby running as 1Z24. It was nice to see that the charter was put on the fast line from Bedford and as a consequence, it was working hard 'Thumping' nicely as it passed me. Incidentally, if you wish to visit this spot you will need a tall ladder to take photographs from as NR installed absolutely huge parapet extensions when the line was electrified.
