1001, outward leg of The Derby Researcher, 07.02 Hastings-Derby (1Z24,3L), Highfield bridge, Oakley Within a few minutes of arriving at my chosen location in the Bedfordshire village of Oakley The Derby Researcher charter passed worked by Hastings Diesels Limited DEMU set 1001. Leading the set is DMBS 60118 'Tun­bridge Wells' which was in charge all the way from Hastings to Derby running as 1Z24. It was nice to see that the charter was put on the fast line from Bedford and as a consequence, it was working hard 'Thumping' nicely as it passed me. Incidentally, if you wish to visit this spot you will need a tall ladder to take photographs from as NR installed absolutely huge parapet extensions when the line was electrified.
