A straightforward journey to London from Northampton. For the first night of our stay, we were in King's Cross just two minutes from the station. After our evening meal, I went to King's Cross for an hour or so whilst my wife watched Love Island which I do my best to avoid at all costs!

My wife and I travelled to London on the 09.06 Birmingham to Euston London Northwestern service from Northampton worked by 350369. The train south is seen arriving at Northampton station.

Colas' Plasser and Theurer Switch and Crossing Tamper DR73947 passes through Northampton just going under St.James Road bridge to the south of the station. The track machine was working as the 6J26 09.00 Bletcheley Yard to Worcester.

A broadside view of 92042 stabled in Wembley Yard as we pass at line speed aboard the 09.06 Birmingham to Euston service. Just appearing in-shot to the right is 37608 'Andromeda' which I di not, unfortunately, manage a better photograph of.

Frontage, London King's Cross station
Just catching some evening sunshine the frontage of King's Cross station looks grand standing above the busy roads surrounding it. The superb Lewis Cubitt-designed station is now fully revealed following its extensive redevelopment completed in 2012. The area in front of the station is now a large paved open space that sees a range of uses for example a regular food fare.

The latest lineup of trains at King's Cross pokes their noses out from the station roof. Furthest to nearest they are....

801217 - 16.30 Edinburgh Waverley-London King's Cross -1E23.
801222 - 21.17 London King's Cross-Bounds Green - 5Y22.
801201 - 21.00 London King's Cross-Newcastle - 1N34.

Whilst the Azumas now dominate services there are still a number of IC225 sets still in operation on the Leeds route.

DVT 82214 leads the 18.45 Leeds to King's Cross train out of the eastern bore of Gasworks tunnel into the light at King's Cross. Providing the power at the rear of the train was 91114 'Durham Cathedral'

801217, GR 22.00 London King's Cross-Newcastle & 91114, GR 21.33 London King's Cross-Leeds (1D33, 1E), London King's Cross station
A fitter attempts to enter the cab of 91114 'Durham Cathedral' just after it had arrived at King's Cross. Unfortunately, he had some sort of problem with the lock or the latch as he soon resorted to gaining access via the blunt end door and walking back through the locomotive. Later in the evening, the train would work the 21.33 service to Leeds whilst 801217 would leave slightly later as the 22.00 to Newcastle.

803005, LD 21.12 London King's Cross-Ferme park (5Y86, RT), London King's Cross station
With its work over for the day, Lumo's 803005 is waiting to head back to Ferme Park as the 5Y86 from King's Cross. On arrival, it will be serviced and made ready for the next day's services. Owned by First Group, open access operator Lumo has been in operation for nearly three years and appears to be in demand by the travelling public if their published passenger numbers are correct.

91114, GR 21.33 London King's Cross-Leeds (1D33, 1E), London King's Cross station
With the scene darkening fast and with few people about King's Cross was eerily quiet by 21.10 on this Friday evening. Indeed, I was able to walk around the station with impunity with all the gatelines open and unstaffed. 91114 'Durham Cathedral' is all quiet but will soon burst into life to work the final down Leeds train of the day, the 1D33 21.33 departure.

The last train of the day to Newcastle from London sits at platform zero. 801217 will depart King's Cross at 22.00 running as 1N35 arriving at well after midnight.

180102, GC 21.23 London King's Cross-Ferme Park (5Y61, 1E), London King's Cross station
Having just arrived from Sunderland 180102 has emptied itself of passengers and is being prepared to run as 5Y61 to Ferme Park for overnight servicing. Grand Central has persevered with the notoriously unreliable Class 180s and they seem to be working well for them now. Of the original fourteen sets, just ten are still in service being now well over twenty years old.

Clock tower, London St. Pancras station
According to the clock of St. Pancras, it is 21.39. The station and tower need no introduction being designed by George Gilbert Scott, the great proponent of the style known as the Gothic Revival, a Victorian style with echoes back to the Gothic era of the Middle Ages. The floor immediately below the clock where the tall windows are seen is an incredible apartment that has been featured in a TikTok video, see..... https://www.tiktok.com/@jublondon/video/7290584900825107744?embed_source=121374463%2C121442748%2C121439635%2C121433650%2C121404358%2C121351166%2C121331973%2C120811592%2C120810756%3Bnull%3Bembed_blank&refer=embed&referer_url=www.stpancrasclocktower.london%2Fabout-us&referer_video_id=7290584900825107744
