52. A 150 to Wolverton & some 'new look' Class 57s-16.06.24

A busy Sunday afternoon saw another Northern Class 150 heading to Woverton for repairs and then what, on paper at least, would be a standard ECS move. However, that stock was being top and tailed by a pair of GBRf's smartly repainted former Class 57 Thunderbirds. This fact did not go unnoticed by a number of local enthusiasts!

150454, 09.36 Heaton TMD-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5H70, 44E), site of Roade station
The sight of a Northern Class 150 on the up fast line of the WCML is not something seen every day! 150454 is seen passing Roade on the up fast due to the planned closure of the slow lines through Northampton having almost completed its journey as the 5H70 09.36 Heaton TMD (Newcastle) to Wolverton Centre Sidings. There have been a number of these moves bringing the Northern units south for repair work largely relating to corrosion damage rather than a complete overhaul. They seem to spend about a month at Wolverton before returning.

66726, 15.17 Hams Hall-Wembley Reception (4A47, 3L), Milton Crossing
With the slow lines closed through Northampton all traffic was diverted via the Weedon route. 66726 'Sheffield Wednesday' is seen passing Milton Crossing leading the 4A47 15.17 Hams Hall to Wembley Yard. Despite the cloudy sky there was actually quite a lot of sun about but it's just that it didn't shine down on the train!

805012, VT, 15.32 Chester-London Euston (1A48, 25L), Milton Crossing
My first picture of a Class 805 Evero in service for Avanti is seen passing Multon Crossing just north of Roade cutting. It is working the 1A48 15.32 Chester to Euston service that was, unfortunately badly delayed as it approached London arriving twenty-five minutes adrift.

57310, 16.08 Wembley Yard-Burton Ot Wetmore (5Z63, RT), Milton Crossing
Returning a set of stock used on a charter the previous day would not normally attract the attention of many photographers but no fewer than five turned up at this location a short distance north of Roade cutting at Milton crossing. The reason was the motive power being used, namely GBRf's newly repainted 57310. The superb paint job was completed by Loughborough Works during April and I think that it suits the the former Virgin Thunderbird very well. With matching 47306 at the rear the train was running as 5Z63, the 16.08 Wembley Yard to Burton-ot-Wetmore

57306, 16.08 Wembley Yard-Burton Ot Wetmore (5Z63, RT), Milton Crossing
57306 brings up the rear of the 5Z63 16.08 Wembley Yard to Burton-ot-Wetmore empty stock move. 57310 is leading the train seen at Milton crossing just north of Roade on the Weedon loop know as the 'old route'. Both former Virgin Thunderbirds were painted by UKRL4 at Loughborough and look very smart in their GBRf livery.
