51. Final Class 777 move-12.06.24

Allegedly, on this day the final Merseyrail Class 777 would be heading north to its new home. As I was working in Milton Keynes near to the line I was able to nip out and see the Railadventure (sic) HSTs heading south to collect the unit from Wembley Yard. Later in the evening, the combo passed close to home heading to Merseyside so I popped out again after dinner on Bertie the Brompton!

43467, 43423, 43468 & 43480, 12.47 Kings Norton Yard-Wembley Yard (0Z54, 17L), Loughton Redway bridge, Milton Keynes
A quartet of HST power cars head south along the WCML at Milton Keynes seen from a footbridge just north of the station. 43467 leads 43423 still wearing their very faded East Midlands Train livery with 43468 and 43480 bringing up the rear. I am not too sure as to why a second pair was heading south as the 0Z54 12.47 King's Norton Yard to Wembley Yard, perhaps there was other work due to come the way of Railadventure later. All I do know is that the smart two power cars would return north later in the evening dragging the final Merseyrail Class 777 to be delivered.

390157, VT 18.53 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H38, 8L), site of Roade station
In some lovely soft evening light 390157 'Chad Varah' works the 1H83 18.53 Euston to Manchester service. It is sobering to think that now in 2024 the Pendolinos have been racking up the miles on the West Coast Mainline for over twenty years. However, this particular example has only been going for twelve years being the last of the extension order to enter service.

221102 & 221110, VT 18.40 London Euston-Crewe (9K02, 26L), site of Roade station
Even though I am not a fan of the Voyagers, any pictures taken now of them working Avanti services could potentially be my last one with them being taken off this route as the Class 805 Everos enter service. 221102 and 221110 pass Roade with the evening 18,40 Euston to Crewe service catching some lovely evening sunshine...very similar to the next photograph.....

221103 & 221104, VT 19.02 London Euston-Holyhead (1D93, 20L), site of Roade station
It is almost a repeat of the previous photograph taken at the site of Roade's former station but this time it's sequentially numbered 221103 and 221104 working the very late running 19.02 Euston to Holyhead service. I read that the end of the Voyagers on this line may now not actually be taking place as Grand Union have applied to run trains between London and Stirling using off-lease 221s and Class 222 Meridians. Can you imagine making a journey in its entirety on one of these units?

43480, 43468 & Class 777 (777035?), 18.31 Wembley Yard-Walton Old Junction (6Q77, RT), site of Roade station
What is supposed to be the final Merseyrail Class 777 new unit move passes Roade in some super evening sunshine; something that has been lacking so far this spring and early summer! I believe that the unit is 777035 but am happy to be corrected if anybody knows better! Railadventure's (sic) 43480 and 43468 are towing the unit with some appropriate barrier coaches to assist with brake force. Delivery of the Class 777s was supposed to have been completed four years ago but, as usual, various teething problems pushed this date back including COVID which seems to be blamed for most things!

Class 777 (777035?), 18.31 Wembley Yard-Walton Old Junction (6Q77, RT), site of Roade station
I believe this unit to be 777035 and that it is the final Merseyrail unit to be delivered. It is seen passing Roade as the 6Q77 18.31 Wembley Yard to Walton Old Junction. Out of sight at the front former Grand Central HST power cars 43480 and 43468 now Railadventure liveried and operated are towing the train. I saw one of the very first deliveries deep in the middle of the first COVID lockdown also passing Roade, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29021665404/x777004-02-44-dollands-moor-kirkdale

66729, 15.06 Garston Car Terminal-Dagenham Docks (6L48, 3E), site of Roade station
The empty Ford car train returns after delivery of a train of new vehicles to their Liverpool finishing and distribution centre. 66729 'Derby County' leads the 15.06 Garston to Dagenham Docks 6L48 through Roade. This is a very noisy train due to the unweighted nature of the wagons and is recognisable when heard passing through the village. It's nice to be taking pictures on a summer's evening in the sunshine, something that I have not managed so far this spring and summer!
