43423 & 43467, 07.29 Wembley Yard-King's Norton Plant (0Z45, 35E), Hyde Road bridge
The rapid progress of the 0Z45 07.29 Wembley Yard to King's Norton very nearly caught me out with my arrival at Roade's Hyde Road bridge some minute or so before the passage of the train! A very faded and weather-worn 43423 leads 43467 as they make their way back to their base in the southwestern suburbs of Birmingham. Both of these HST power cars are former Grand Central examples that spent their last couple of years working for East Midlands Railways hence their faded blue livery that I am sure will soon be replaced by Railadventure's rather more striking paint scheme.

90006 & 90015, 03.14 Garston-Felixstowe North (4L97, 18E), Hyde Road bridge
Freightliner's 90006 leads 90015 through Roade cutting taken from the village's Hyde Road bridge working the daily 03.14 Garston to Felixstowe North 4L97 service. Up until a few years ago, this service was in the hands of the venerable Class 86s before their withdrawal. But now it is the far newer Class 90s which are being withdrawn whittling the class down to less than half of what they were. Admittedly, the majority of these scrap locomotives have been in store in various states of disrepair for many years pending a decision on their future.
