Having been unable to see the outward leg of The Royal Windsor Statesman charter in the morning due to work commitments I was able to get out and see it on its return in the early evening. However, the weather had deteriorated with it becoming increasingly grey and dull. Earlier in the afternoon, I also managed to capture the 6V06, a new freight flow passing through my home area.

66079, 11.59 Burton-ot-Wetmore Yard-Acton TC (6V06,6E), Hyde Road bridge
Looking smart in its recently applied DB Cargo livery 66079 'James Nightall G.C. ' leads the 6V06 11.59 Burton-ot-Wetmore to Acton Yard empties through Roade cutting. The train is composed of a rake of ex EWS MBA box wagons often referred to as 'monster boxes'. This Class 66 is one of two, the other being 66079 'Benjamin Gimbert G.C.', which carry their nameplates on their cab ends rather than in the more normal location on the flanks.

66733, 13.39 Ditton-Felixstowe North (4L62, 13E), site of Roade station
Named back in September 2014 66733 'Cambridge PSB' leads the 4L62 13.39 Ditton to Felixstowe service through the village of Roade. This was a total grab shot with me arriving at the bridge to hear the train approaching giving me just enough time to power up the camera and hold it 'blind' over the parapet and press the shutter. Apart from a little straightening up and cropping this is as it was taken!

66570, 12.57 London Gateway-Garston (4M56, 34E), site of Roade station
Freightliner's 66570 leads the 12.57 London Gateway to Garston intermodal service past the site of Roade's former station. After a relatively bright day, the late afternoon has become dull with a thick veil of grey cloud acting as a portent to yet more rain!

66244, 13.20 Trafford Park-London Gateway (4L56, RT), site of Roade station
My second 'grab' shot of the afternoon has not been quite so successful as the first (see previous picture but one). This one caught me out as I was returning from the garage having bought five litres of fuel for the lawnmower! It would not have made the cut but for it being of 66244 that is a photographic cop. The DB Cargo locomotive is leading the daily 4L56 13.20 Trafford Park to London Gateway service through the Northamptonshire village of Roade.

66568, 13.13 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M93, 8E), site of Roade station
With an Avanti Pendolino fast approaching on the down fast line 66568 leads the 13.13 Felixstowe to Lawley Street Freightliner service past the site of Roade's former station. Like all the freight observed on this day, the 4M93 was well-loaded with boxes.

D1935, retrun leg of the Royal Windsor Statesman, 15.40 Windsor & Eaton-Crewe Riverside (1Z62, 2L), site of Roade station
Narrowly avoiding being bowled by a Class 350 heading south the returning Royal Windsor Statesman charter is seen passing Roade led by D1935 'Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013'. The charter left Windsor and Eaton Riverside station at 15.40 and was heading back to Crewe dropping customers off at various points between the two. Note the BR blue and grey Mk.1 catering vehicle marshalled in the centre of the train spoiling the look of the Statesman liveried Mk. II stock
