Frontage, Corby station
The story of Corby's railway station has been a tale of a number of openings and closures! The latest station, seen here, is on the same site as the previous ones and opened in February 2009. It was the third example of a modular station design developed by Network Rail, following Mitcham Eastfields and Greenhithe but did not draw universal applause for its design, notably from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment who really did not like it! Prior to its re-opening in 2009 it was claimed that Corby was one of the largest towns in Europe without a railway station (according to the Independent) following the closure of the previous one in 1990 that had only opened in 1987 offering a well-patronised but poorly operated DMU service to Kettering. Before this date, the initial Midland Railway built station closed in 1966 after opening in 1879 all at the same location. Notice the odd verticals of the concrete block and the lamposts in this image. This is not as a result of me or the camera's lens but by design; very odd!

360109, EM 07.18 London St. Pancras-Corby (1Y07, RT), Corby station
Having arrived as the 07.18 from St. Pancras the crew of 360109 check the rear of their train at Corby station before making their way to the other end for its return to London. In this view, the 2009 station is seen to the left of the photograph with the original 1879 Midland platform still extant to the right. There are discussions to possibly reopen the down platform and also to build a footbridge permitting passengers and pedestrians to cross the line and access to the western side of the line where there is a school, a large territory college and the town centre. It's a shame that this was not thought about until the wires arrived in 2021!

360118, EM 08.39 Corby-London St. Pancras (1H14, 13L), Corby station
Having just arrived from London 360118, with 360109 on the rear, will soon leave Corby with the 08.39 return EMR service. Since the energising of the wires in 2021 Corby has enjoyed a half-hourly return service to and from the capital with an impressive COVID-beating rise in passenger numbers.
