An afternoon trip out on my trusty Brompton to capture the passage of a West Coast Railways stock move that was to be steam-hauled throughout. Unfortunately, on the day it was piloted by a Class 47.

325005 & 325013, 16.16 Willesden PRDC-Warrington Royal Mail (1M96, 2E), Victoria bridge
The 1M96 Royal Mail train runs every weekday between London and Warrington conveying what I understand to be largely parcels between the two delivery sorting centres. 325006 leads with 325013 at the rear with an unidentified set in the centre past Victoria bridge located between Ashton and Roade.

47812 & 45407, 09.33 Carnforth Steamtown-Southall WCR (5Z42, 9E), Victoria bridge
There was talk on the internet that Black 5 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' would lead the 5Z42 09.33 Carnforth to Southall empty stock move. However, the decision was taken to pilot the train with 47812 attached to the front with the Black 5 then in light steam. Unfortunately, being double-headed meant that the two locomotives did not fit in the space at my chosen spot at Victoria bridge just south of Roade. The drab WCR colour scheme applied to their stock and the Type 4 does not really stand out on this dull April day!

66420 & 66556, 12.57 London Gateway-Garston (4M56, 14L), Victoria bridge
A second example of a photograph that is not framed well due to it being surprisingly double-headed. Running very late, perhaps suggesting problems with the initial leading locomotive, the 4M56 12.57 London Gateway to Garston Freightliner passes Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton. With 66420 now leading 66556 the train was able to pick up much of its lost time with eventual arrival at Grston just sixteen minutes late.

66546, 13.13 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M93, 11E), Victoria bridge
The daily 13.13 Felixstowe North to Lawley Street 4M93 Freightliner passes through the Northamptonshire countryside near the village of Roade leading with 66546 leading. Stretching off into the distance the 4M93 was well loaded as were all the freights observed on this dull Thursday afternoon.

66032, 13.20 Trafford Park-London Gateway (4L56, 2E) & 390103, VT 17.17 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1B54, 2L), Victoria bridge
A burst of DB Cargo red brightens up a dull April afternoon! 66032 leads the 4L56 Trafford Park to London Gateway service, again very well loaded, just south of the Northamptonshire village of Roade, seen in the background including my own house! Recently named (October 2023) 390103 'Asquith Xavier' also heads south, but slightly faster than the 4L56, working the 17.17 Birmingham New Street to Euston AWC service.
