A much quieter and calmer journey home from London to Northampton than the outward run the previous day!

As the 12.10 Euston to Edinburgh Waverley worked by 390134 gets away from its starting point the front of our train home sits waiting to leave for Birmingham New Street worked by 350113 as the leading set. As can be seen from this photograph, it is absolutely pouring with rain in London on this Sunday afternoon!

350113, LN 12.22 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y23, 2E), London Euston station
It's Sunday lunchtime and relatively quiet so what do London Northwestern do, make the 12.22 Euston to Birmingham New Street a three-set service (twelve coaches). Yesterday morning (a Saturday with several big events taking place in the capital) it was an absolutely packed (full and standing) two-set service. I seriously do wonder if actual real people are making decisions on the railways today, if they are they are seriously detached from the realities of travel.

The 12.15 Euston to Watford Junction London Overground service waits to depart form its origin station. These Class 710 units have transformed heavyweight rail around North London vastly improving the experience for the travelling public.

66103, 06.00 Willesden West London Junction-Bescot Yard (6R02, 17E), Wembley Yard
The rear of the 06.00 Willesden West London Junction to Bescot engineering train sits stabled in Wembley Yard waiting to depart later in the afternoon. 66103 will tag along for the ride back to Birmingham. Notice that it is still in its as-delivered EWS livery with rather conspicuous DB vinyls rather clumsily stuck over the '3 beastie' images.

66194, 06.00 Willesden West London Junction-Bescot Yard (6R02, 17E), Wembley Yard
Whilst the trailing locomotive of the 6R02 engineering train heading back to Bescot Yard is in its EWS livery but DB branded the leading 66194 is absolutely standard as delivered back in 1999. It is seen as we pass Wembley Yard and will follow us along the WCML later in the afternoon but a much reduced and restricted pace!

Tickets, London Euston-Northampton
Our return tickets from Euston to Northampton. Despite that our time of travel was after the rise in rail ticket prices as they were booked in advance they are still at the pre-increase price of £25.70. Next time we visit the capital on off-peak tickets using our two-together discount it will be interesting to see what the price will be.
