Another Saturday morning so it's another Cumbrian Mountain Express! A quick walk across the field from home sees me photographing the train from one of my more favoured spots for capturing down trains.

70019, down Freightliner, Ashton Road bridge Class 70s are not particularly common on the southern section of the WCML with them making their presence known when they do operate! 70019 passes just south of Roade working an undidentified down Freightliner service. 390009, VT 07.20 London Euston-Wolverhampton, Ashton Road bridge 390009 works the 07.20 Euston to Wolverhampton Virgin service nearing Roade in Northamptonshire on this dull and grey February morning. Class 390, VT 07.30 London Euston-Glasgow Central, Ashton Road bridge An unidentified Class 390 Pendolino approaches Roade in the gloom of a grey February morning working the 07.30 Euston to Glasgow Central service. 86259, outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express 2, 07.06 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Ashton Road bridge If it's a Saturday morning in February, it must be a Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express charter! As usual, 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' leads the 1Z86 charter between Roade and Ashton that left Euston, as usual, at 07.06. On arrival at Carnforth 60009 'Union of South Africa' took over and led the train to Carlisle where the locomotive was turned on the triangle for it to lead south again over the Settle and Carlisle as far as Farington Junction where 86259 again took over to bring the train back to Euston in the evening.
