65. The hottest day of the year!-09.09.23

After a week of insanely hot days with temperatures in excess of thirty degrees Celsius, the final really hot day ended up becoming the hottest day of the year - in September! With freight diversions along the 'old' route via Weedon still in place due to the closure of the slow lines from Hanslope to Northampton, I thought that I would get out and enjoy the sun.

Northern portal, entry to Sergo Logistics Park, Milton Malsor
When the Sergo Logistics Park opens to rail traffic I am not sure as to what it will become known as in railway circles. Whatever it will be know as this is where trains will arrive and depart from the northern end. The Northampton to Hanslope Junction slow lines are in the foreground near the village of Milton Malsor. After a week of the slow lines being closed, I was expecting to see the lines emanating from under the bridge and the pointwork installed connecting them to the network; alas not at this end anyway!

Future junction point, entry to Sergo Logistics Park, Milton Malsor
After the slow lines between Northampton and Hanslope Junction being completely closed for over a week I was expected to find some nice new shiny pointwork installed here at Milton Malsor to connect the Sergo Logistics Park to the network. Whilst this may have happened at the southern end to which access was not possible there is limited evidence of work here at the northern end. The marker post reads 62 miles and 44 chains and will be the official mileage of the junction once it is installed here with Freightliner and intermodal trains entering and leaving the Logistics Park. Notice the two buildings on the skyline, to the right is the Danes Camp leisure centre and to the left is the unusual spire of St Benedict's Church high up on Hunsbury Hill.

D1935, 08.57 Crewe HS-Southall LSL (5Z47, 13E), Victoria bridge
On a belting hot Saturday afternoon that was actually going to become the hottest day of the year D1935 'Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013' leads the 08.57 Crewe HS to Southall LSL empty coaching stock past Victoria bridge just south of Roade. Due to the closure of the slow lines due to engineering works to connect up the Sergo Logistics Park to the mainline diversions were in operation hence why this train is on the up fast line.

66748, 09.54 Hams Hall-Felixstowe North (4M13, 23L), Victoria bridge
In glorious hot sunshine 66748 'West Burton 50' leads the 09.54 Hams Hall to Felixstowe GBRf service on the up fast line past Victoria bridge just south of Roade. After a week of diversions with all traffic running on the 'old' route via Weedon control and signallers will no doubt be looking forward to the reopening of the Northampton loop and things able to return to normal!

66775, 06.34 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45, 35L), site of Roade station
The daily 'water train' passes through Roade but on the down fast line taking to 'old' line via Weedon to Rugby. GBRf's 66775 'HMS Argyle' is leading the 6M45 06.34 Dollands Moor to DIRFT that, on arrival at Rugby, will run round its train to then head the short distance south to Daventy's freight terminal. Despite being re-timed to take account of this logistical inconvenience the train still arrived over half an hour late.
